DEPRESSING MEETINGS

Today at lunch time it was a meeting with young parents whose nursery is under threat of closure by the SNP/Lib. Dem. Cabal who now run Renfrewshire Council.
The council have decided that they can save a little money by closing St. Fergus Nursery, the parents are at a loss to understand why when pre school education is so vital, this is one of the poorest areas there is and the council are about to make them suffer more.
Children from poor backgrounds need more help and encouragement to achieve not less, but they are the most vulnerable so the SNP/Lib. Dems. target them, they are shameless.

Tonight I will chair a meeting attended by another group of vulnerable people who are being targeted by this shower who are now in power, this time it’s the elderly.
If it’s not vulnerable infants it’s their great grand parents who are being treated like second class citizens by Renfrewshire’s SNP/Lib. Dem. Leaders.

Those who stay in sheltered accommodation are having their warden service cut, this time it’s a fete accompli there will be no consultation, what would you expect from this bunch of cowards. There will be frightened, vulnerable people there tonight who will be asking what is going to happen to them.
If you had an elderly relative in sheltered accommodation how would you feel if the council decided to remove the overnight warden and replace her/him with an alarm ? That’s what is going to happen, vulnerable possibly distressed elderly people will be in danger of having to work an alarm if they are in trouble during the night rather than call the warden.

The people responsible for this decision, (the council administration) are actually saying that while there will be no night warden and the number of wardens will be cut as well as the elderly having now to pay for this, the service will improve ! You decide, is this credible ? Are those in charge completely without any decency ?

What about Wendy and the offshore tax dodger. No pontifications about this?

what was that you used to say about Sean connery?

Need to go, Terry, thats my mole in the PF's office on the phone, must be something important.

Heard anything about the dodgy fundraising in Renfrewshire? Do some digging. You will love it-I promise.

I would ask why I had abandonned my parents to the care of the state rather than looking after them in their dotage as per historical norms.

While it is true that the council are cutting the number of wardens you are not giving all the facts:

Charges for Supported Living Wardens services are being introduced all over country (as in UK wide). Every council up and down Britain, regardless of political leadership, is being faced with making the same decisions as in Renfrewshire.

If the cuts are not made, residents could be faced with bills of up to £60 per week!!

Now faced with the choice between finding an extra £240 per month or pressing a button for nighttime assistance which would you choose?

Remember these residents ARE independent and able enough to not require 24/7 care. The Wardens are there in case of emergencies NOT to provide day to day care.

Taken from directgov.co.uk
"Costs and service changes
To cover the cost of running the sheltered housing scheme, residents may have to pay a monthly service charge. This contributes towards paying for things like the scheme manager and building repairs.

The amount you have to pay will vary, so always ask how much the service charge will be. It's also important to check what the service charge does not cover. For example, heating may not be included.

If you're an owner-occupier you may also be asked to pay 'one-off' payments to cover things like the cost of unexpected building repairs."

So, Labour-run HM Government are advising people who use sheltered housing that there may be costs involved.

This is outrageous! What are the council proposing to do with regard to the nursery? I haven't been able to find any information about this, due to the media in this country's obsession with Labour party illegal funding issues - as if that's news!

What alternatives are they proposing? and how will it affect the delivery of this important service (ie staff to children ratio)

For the Sheltered accomodation, I'm a little bit less clear:

That’s what is going to happen, vulnerable possibly distressed elderly people will be in danger of having to work an alarm if they are in trouble during the night rather than call the warden.

Doesn't that amount to the same thing? Raising an alarm or raising an alarm?

"vulnerable possibly distressed elderly people will be in danger of having to work an alarm if they are in trouble during the night rather than call the warden."

Tell me something Terry, what do you think the "alarm" is for? Do you believe that it will set bells and lights off outside the residence and the poor old biddy will be reliant upon some passing samaritan calling it in?

More to the point, how do you think a vulnerable, distressed elderly person calls for the Warden at present?

They press a panic button which sets of an "alarm" in the Wardens quarters/office.

The plan "remove the overnight warden and replace her/him with an alarm ?" means the council are doing away with the "sleepover" warden and the alarm will be routed to a central location and a warden dispatched to the residence. True this means a significantly increased time lapse between the alarm being raise and assistance being rendered, but the residents are by no means abandoned.

Yet again Terry you are being economical with the truth and relying upon emotion to carry your argument.

Lets get a few facts straight Terry.

There are only 8 pupils at St Fergus Nursery and all of them can be easily accomodated at a very nearby nursery. There are 4 other nurseries in Ferguslie. How many do you need. There is no loss of service or nursery places here, merely the closure of an extremely underused building.

The sheltered housing issue.

Who put the decision to charge the elderly for this service through the Scottish Parliament - non other than HUGH HENRY - LABOUR.

Who voted this through at the Family and Community Care Board during their previous period in the council administration - non other than the LABOUR COUNCIL.

It is decision that was made by LABOUR to charge the elderly in sheltered housing that has led to this situation. If cuts are not made then the charge that was initiated by LABOUR would be over £30 per week to each occupant.

The new service is to cost less than a third of that.

The new administration has been left with many horrible legacies of the dark days of labour control and I doubt that this will be the last.

Your post and its lack of the full facts shows how eager you are to damage the new council administration and that you are in fact not really interested the elderly or young children. They are merely political pawns to you.

This should come as no surprise after reading your blog for the last 10 months

wot? no critique of 'Wendygate' and the cash from tax exiled millionaires, and you a 'socialist' as well. Maybe dodgy councillors expenses is more up your street.

Why don't you join the SNP, a party with principles, I am sure they would welcome you with open arms, being the colossal intellect that you are.

Alas, Councillor, your French appears to be no better than your English. Perhaps it was your lack of pre-school education.

As to the cuts in local services, could you remind us of exactly how much you and your fellow councillors draw in the way of salary and expenses?

(Anonymous) 23:54 - Ah, the £950 - Sean Connery was able to change the leader of the SNP from Swinney to Salmond (for first minister) by withdrawing his financial support, now that’s buying power isn’t it.

Cllr Terry Kelly said...

(tiny little legs) 00:05 - Let’s hear it then, name names and ID yourself, let’s see what you are made of.

Cllr Terry Kelly said...

(Max) 06:23 - That’s an awful lot of people (none of whom you know) that you have just insulted. A truly crass and dishonest remark.

go on Terry, lets have your crushing intellect mull over Wendygate.
CIA plot? mossad operation? the SNP secret service unit?

No? Just straight forward Labour corruption, not worth dwelling on. Weren,t you Wendy's election agent? or was that your wee pal ex-councillor Williams. oops thats next week.

Mr Kelly,

The closure of St Fergus Nursery is a very sensible decision.

Ther are only 8 attendees at this nursery and all of them have been accomodated in a nursery almost next door.

Surely this makes perfect sense or would you prefer to continue throwing money away. Mind you that was the modus operandi of the Labour Council when they were in administration

I'm going to enjoy it when Kayleen send you to home and leaves you to rot you in your own socialist squalor

(Political Athesist aka Mutt aka ?) 30/11/07 - Labour controlled Renfrewshire Council were asked on several occasions to cut the Warden Service and impose charges, we refused every time.

Cllr Terry Kelly said...

(The Incorrigible Plagiarist) 30/11/07 - the SNP/Lib.Dem. Administration intend closing a nursery whose numbers are set to go up and disrupt the early years learning of these children for very little savings, it’s another SNP attack on the poor.

Those elderly distressed people who are in trouble in the night can talk to the alarm while they are waiting for the services to arrive, they can get the alarm to do temporary repairs to injuries and extinguish minor fires etc. while they are waiting, right ? Are you really this silly ?

Cllr Terry Kelly said...

(Political Athesist aka Mutt aka ?) 30/11/07 - read my comment to Political atheist and try not to be so stupid, at least make an effort.

Cllr Terry Kelly said...

(Anonymous) 30/11/07 If you lift your wee tartan veil you’ll see that the SNP are doing what we said they would, attacking the vulnerable, read my other comments on this.

Cllr Terry Kelly said...

(Anonymous) 01/12/07 I have already commented on the current news and will do so again. SNP ? Principles ? shoorely shum mishtake !

Cllr Terry Kelly said...

(David Duff) 01/12/07 - My French is bad my English is bad so, did you not follow what I meant. Or are you of one of those imbeciles who thinks a wrongly spelled word is an argument lost ?

Expenses ? No comment other than to say I’m rich and all politicians are in it for themselves and all politicians are bent and all politicians are liars.

I never knew this until I came in to contact with you, well done.

The Incorrigible Plagiarist said...

So, apparently the numbers are 8 children will be assigned places in 1 of the 4 nearby nurseries.

Hardly the most vicious assault on the poor...

As for the wardens service... I guess the people of Paisley have got the councillor they deserve, but for intelligent and diligent opposition... well, I just hope you make more sense in the council chambers...

Anonymous said...

No comment on expenses?

Go on Terry, you're never going to make it to Holyrood,so imagine Wendy, Hain, Harman, Blears etc were Tories instead of very senior Labour crooks and go for the jugular as only you can.

Take a stand for morality in public office big man.

Cllr Terry Kelly said...

(Dana Interpersonals) 02/12/07 - explain this.

Cllr Terry Kelly said...

(Anonymous) 02/12/07 - the snp don’t need a secret service unit they have the Scottish Press.

Cllr Terry Kelly said...

(The Incorrigible Plagiarist) 13:27 - I’ve said before that I have had my say on these matters - your info. is wrong and you are where I would expect you to be attacking the most vulnerable.

Cllr Terry Kelly said...

(Anonymous) 16:52 serious allegations but, not serious enough for you to come out of hiding eh ?

Anonymous said...

Cllr
'Serious allegations?' You betcha they are. And they were made by the PM who said "the law has been broken' and by m/s Alexander who was moved to apologise.

The Labour Party, Alexander, Hain & Harman have admitted either taking illegal donations, soliciting illegal donations or not making full declarations, while Blears was torpedoed by Andrew Neill on the Politics Show regarding Anthony Bailey's donation to her Deputy Leader Campaign and his subsequent appointment to a quango.

Now, as Ms Alexanders Election Agent, can you share your thoughts on why ALL Alexanders donations came in below £1000, which meant donors could remain anonymous?

Cllr Terry Kelly said...

(Anonymous) 09/12/07 Still not serious enough to name yourself is it ? Donors are entitled to remain anonymous if they choose, by staying under £1,000 they can legally do that, where’s the mystery ? I am not Wendy Alexander’s agent.

Anonymous said...

Councillor, the mystery is; Why would Ms Alexanders crew specifically request that donations be kept below the £1000 declaration trigger?

And stop puffing smoke - you WERE her agent and therefore one of the crew.

Anonymous said...

What about your own leader?? Amazing that you have made no comments or defended her! People in glass houses.....
What about your other pals Tommy Williams, Richard Manser and the illusive Jim Sharkey ..............

Anonymous said...

Now who should we believe - The Labour Party ....Wendy Alexander, Tommy Williams, Richard Manser. You are very economical with the truth Mr Kelly , you and your pal Tommy Williams should hang your heads in shame , the people of Ferguslie Park & Shortroods deserve better than you two.The new administration have inherited your mess and are doing their best to turn things around. If you had done such a great job in your ward why is it still one of the most deprived areas in Scotland?? You have had your chance and failed miserably. Let the new administration do their job and stop lying to people as you always have!!

Cllr Terry Kelly said...

(Anonymous) 12/12/07 - Keeping donations below £1,000 means the donor can maintain anonymity if they choose, this isn’t news. I think you might in your own misguided way be referring to the election of the Party leader, I was her election agent, are you capable of working out the difference ? Wendy has my absolute support, is that clear enough for you ?

Cllr Terry Kelly said...

(Anonymous) 14/12/07 - I have mentioned all of these people you are either stupid or a liar, read my comments.

(Anonymous) 14/12/07 - I disagree and, you forgot about the time that I shot Bambi’s mother.
