THE CARNAGE CAUSED BY THE SNP GOES ON.

Today was another shameful episode for the SNP in Renfrewshire Council but, you needn’t worry if you missed it, another one will be along shortly.
Today it was the turn of Ice Skating which has thrived in Paisley since the 19 30’s to be stabbed in the back by the SNP, that’s what those wee knives down their socks are for, another betrayal.

Monday saw the betrayal of South Primary, following an outstanding HMIe report the SNP are closing it, today was the turn of the Lagoon Ice Rink, after two years of attacking Labour as we tried to find a solution they have shut it down, that is now the common SNP solution, closure. What might it be on Wednesday, nothing is safe. Another example of sanctimonious deceit by the SNP, it’s now their trade mark, do you know they call themselves Scotland’s Party ? Honestly they do, ask them if, like growing numbers of others you find it too hard to believe, Scotland’s Party that’s their claim.

They have misled skaters about Braehead being able to provide the groups who used the Lagoon with Ice Time. The groups have told us that by the end of this year they will have been unable to get ice time at Braehead for a total of 6 months, some provision for hockey and ice dancing right ?
The SNP’s fraudulent reason for it’s closure is that it would cost too much to put back the ice, the cost ? £4M.

Cast your mind back a couple of months and the SNP administration wanted to spend £4M. On the Arnotts store, this became the object of great secrecy and councillors were sworn to keep it quite, the reason ? It was reckoned by Renfrewshire Council’s officers that the deal had elements of risk, the SNP backed this. With hindsight it turned out to be fortuitous that the deal fell through when you consider the property market today, it was a near miss. So there we have an example of the SNP’s priorities.

They are prepared to use £4M. Of tax payers money on what they themselves described as a risky venture but, when asked to spend the same sum on restoring one of Paisley’s oldest sports facilities for the same amount they refuse. Remember the world ladies curling championship a couple of years ago, it put the town on the international map in grand style, a magnificent event, a year into an SNP administration and the rink is ‘no more’ the children of Renfrewshire have been sold out by an administration who have no vision and no ambition for themselves or the kids who want learn to skate and ice dance and play hockey, a complete betrayal.

These are the people who claim to speak up for Scotland, they are a cruel joke being played on us all.

Ice dancing.........in Renfrew? On a diet of Deep Fried Mars Bars? Dear God, my mind is boggling.

These 'groups' you talk about Councillor, would you be giving us some numbers, like how many people are actually wearing the lycra outfits and frilly skirts?

An issue that has not yet been highlighted with regard to the closure of South Primary is where the existing pupils are relocated and the disasterous knock-on effect this would have on Castlehead High.

According to the Renfrewshire Council website there are 104 kids currently attending South Primary. Should it close they would most likely be transferred to the nearest school which is Lochfield Primary which is an associate school of Gleniffer High.

Bussing them past Lochfield onto Toldholm is a no-no as they (& Paisley Grammar as its associated secondary school) do not have the capacity for the additional pupils.

Therefore over the six years between S1 & S6, Castlehead High would lose approximatley 80 pupils from its current role of 871.

This will seriously damage the socio-economic structure of the school as well as its financial viability, which supports & educates kids from some of the poorest areas in both Paisley North & indeed the local authority.

By taking the pupils from South Primary out of Castlehead the SNP will eventually turn it into a sink secondary school that only the few will want to send their kids to.

Chancers.

What exactly did you do to help the ice users since the ice rink has been out of service?? Are you honstly saying that Renfrewshire needs 2 ice rinks, afterall you were the one in favour of post office closures as some of them aren't viable but when SNP present the same argument you don't agree!! As for the £4million to buy Arnotts , the site would have been sold on unlike the Lagoon , unless you are advocating privatising the Lagoon!! i would have thought more of you and your colleagues if you had staged a demo outside the Lagoon at the opening of the new regional sports hall, oh sorry forgot Cllrs Williams, Sharkey, Harte, Green and Wendy & Hugh were to busy enjoying the hospitality!! HYPOCRITS

Jeez, Renfrewshire Council must really be swimming in debt...

For all the brickbats that this administration deserves (and they do deserve brickbats, alowing the South to be the most expensive Primary School in the area is one, closing the Lagoon in the wake of our heroics at the Olympics is another) we should pay tribute to the previous New Labour Administration for leaving such a mess for the new administration. Starting with the £149 million price tag for the new/refurbished fully PPP'd schools.

I and my daughter are in total shock, she has special needs and loved being taken to the ice rink in the town, I am her carer and can't afford to go to Braehead.

I stay in Foxbar and can only say that cllr lorraine cameron has let me and my daughter down badly, she has let the town of Paisley down badly and I just don't know how she can sleep soundly at night.

My neighbour was in paying his rent last week and told me that he saw cllr cameron running about Renfrewshire House as if she owned the bloody building, then was picked up by the provost's car, all very nice but I woder if she was being taken to a slap up meal, while I struggle to tell my dear daughter karen, mary=rose that her special day, her real treat has now stooped due to the actions of lorriane cameron and the snp.

Yours

I could do that for you but you could do it yourself.

Paisley has had Ice Hockey teams, Ice Dancers and free skating sessions since the 1930’s and the lagoon Rink was there for 16 years and well attended is that enough for you.

All of this is possible but the numbers attending Castlehead and the reduced numbers you quote would still represent a healthy school, the danger is that Castlehead with 791 would have lots of empty spaces and that would give cause for concern, with the SNP it would make them a target for closure.

These are not accurate figures but if there were three schools with a capacity of 1,000 each and each had 700 the SNP would be salivating at the prospect of putting the knife in, they are hell bent on creating an ignorant country.

“you were the one in favour of post office closures as some of them aren't viable but when SNP present the same argument you don't agree”

I think you need to check with your SNP puppet masters, they haven’t said it’s not viable because of being underused it’s the cost of repair that they are using as an excuse for this piece of municipal vandalism.

The Labour people were at the opening of the new Lagoon facilities because it was us who put them there. Just like the schools the two faced SNP opposed them and are now lining up to smile for their photos opening them, now that is real HYPOCRICY !

The SNP are grossly inexperienced, incompetent and utterly callous, Cllr. Cameron is not unique, were you bitten by her when you were a child by any chance. The council officers think every day is Christmas because there is not one of the SNP with the ability or courage to oppose a council officer. Proof ? “A wage rise of 16.7 % for you sir oh yes sir of course you are worth it you are only getting £80,000”

'The carnage goes on.'

Indeed it does.First David Cairns resigns and it looks as if Eric Joyce is set to follow, dismayed by the leadership of Wobbler Brown.

They're not being totally honourable - they haven't resigned their seats or anything stupid like that, but still, when Scottish Labour starts to cry 'Stinking fish,' your man is in dire trouble_

Gird the Kelly loins, Terry, it's possible your time has come - Your Party deserves you.

More nonsense from you. You really ought to check your facts, but why let that stand in the way of bluster?
Does the name Greenacres ring a bell? Not Paisley Lagoon, you buffoon!

As a former skater (about 5 years ago)I have no wish to have my hard earned cash spent on repairing an old ice rink (poorly built not so very long ago under a Labour Administration).

I do remember the curling championship a few years ago. It was a farce. Ice melting at the edges and sloping down from the middle. What an embarassement.

The £4 million pounds can only come from local Council Tax payers. In addition to the repair costs there has to be considered the running costs. A quick phone call to anyone running an ice rink will tell you that the subsidy per user has now crept well over £20 each per session.

I feel sorry for the small number of locals who genuinly used the rink but not for the professional so called ice dance teachers who run a business at the council tax payers expense, mainly without the involvement of the income tax man !

You have to ask yourself why there are so few ice rinks left. The answer is very clear. It costs a fortune !

Get a reality check Terry.
The curlers didn't use the rink - they used Greenacres - too posh for the likes of you I fear - although on your pension and salary maybe not - but you would never have been able to get up there I fear.

Please read the following from Wikipedia.

The 2005 World Women's Curling Championship was held from March 19-27, 2005 at the Lagoon Leisure Centre in Paisley, Scotland. The tournament was the first since the 1988 event to be held separately from the 2005 Ford World Men's Curling Championship.

Please don’t feel obliged to apologise I’m used to dealing with people like you. I understand your limitations.

The rink was popular and well attended for 16 years.

If you are going to close public facilities purely on the grounds of costs you are going to be very busy. You are typical of the kind of bean counters in the SNP who know the cost of everything and the value of nothing.

“mainly without the involvement of the income tax man !”

If you want to accuse anyone of impropriety you should first find the courage to identify yourself, otherwise you are similar to something which we sometimes find sticking to our shoes.

I am somewhat bemused. I thought the most expensive school in Renfrewshire to have a child educated was Langbank Primary. Do The SNP intend to close it as well or is it only schools in deprived areas

Cllr Terry Kelly said...

The SNP are inexperienced and cowardly but like most cowards they are not without a certain rat like cunning, they therefore stay well away from places like Langbank when making cuts.

The Langbankers would swat them like flies if they dared.

the scottish nationalists should remember the first recorded games of curling took place on the ice next to Paisley Abbey in the 16th century.

On a spot close to the Ice Rink that the SNP have just closed, they are municipal vandals.

Sir, May I be permitted to make a comment or two, I was about to attend Cllr Lorraine Cameron’s local surgery, as I was walking towards the hall, I noticed this rather uncouth women with a cigarette hanging from her top lip, she looked rather unsavoury, can someone please tell me was that Cllr Cameron?

P.s She looked tanned and had red dyed hair, like a punk rocker, surely this can't be the same Cllr Cameron, who was, I mean is in charge of Renfrewshire's Education Department.

It is a matter of no importance to me whether Cllr. Cameron dyes her hair, smokes cigarettes, works on her tan or chooses to look like a punk rocker, I’m no matinee idol myself, I’ve no idea who it was.

I am however interested in her stewardship of Renfrewshire Council’s education provision and in that role she has been, and continues to be completely out of her depth, she is a force for harm as is her party and the children, parents and teachers of Renfrewshire are the ones who are suffering and, there will be more damage to come.

I have only one comment to make,
"bring back the Tory/SNP Administration of the late 70's, including Tartin Tory Cllr Jim Mitcheal" surley they can't be any worse than this lot of as Cllr Kelly correctly states "spivs"

Cllr. Mitchell has no preference as to who he joins up with, no principals, no political anchor, no sense of truth or justice. Every time I think of him I feel glad that he is not in the same party as me. The Lib. Dems. Were made for them.

I believe that the rot set in when they forcedd out Cllrs. Martin and Vassie, rascals both, but they would never have sold out the people like this SNP lot today.

“comparing the capitalist and communist purges” that is of course what you didn’t do, that’s how you made an a**e of yourself.

I don’t know what the rest of this is about.

Cllr Terry,

Here is an interesting paradox for you!

17 SNP Spivs plus 4 Lib dem Spivs.

The 17 Nats know that if they step out of line and displease Father McKay, then they could receive the same threats and intimidation that former Cllr's Martin & Vassie received, I am no fan of both but things just didn't add up!

Here is the paradox, equally the 16 SNP Spivs know that Father McKay can't throw them out as he would possibly loose the administration, an uneasy calm I would best describe the Nat's at the moment.

I do fully accept your comments about Captain Cameron of the good ship calamity; she is out her depth and sinking fast! I stay in Foxbar and can tell you that she is not liked, described as "lazy" and other choice words not fit for a quality block site. I think Labour can look forward to taking over in three years time.

Scot Allan.

Cllr. Mackay’s tenure as council leader has made Renfrewshire Council a laughing stock.

I believe that there are members of his own group who are enjoying the spectacle, people who are envious and bitter at the patronage he enjoys from those with power in the SNP.
