FREDDIE FORSYTH DIDN'T WRITE THIS, HONESTLY.

Even the old reactionary fantasist couldn't have made up the story of "the toff mercenary, the Prime Minister's son, the failed coup and the black black oil" it is certain to become a movie.

The mercenary Simon Mann 'Ex Eton and SAS' stated that Sir Mark Thatcher was up to his neck in it and part of the “management team” plotting a 2004 coup in the tiny West African nation.
Sir Mark in true Etonian and Tory style has denied any knowledge of the conspiracy, he has predictably ratted on his former chums.

Mr Mann admits being involved in plans to overthrow the President Teodoro Obiang Nguema Mbasogo but he claims he was merely a tool in a plot by more senior figures.
The Equatoguinean President said that if Mann sings then he could get leniency so my money is on Thatcher getting the same treatment as he gave Mann, am I enjoying this ?
The Equatoguineans have issued a warrant for Sir Mark (son of Thatcher) who is believed to be hiding somewhere in Spain like a cornered rat apparently in a secure compound.
They also want the extradition of Sir Mark and Mr Calil another millionaire backer, to face trial in Malabo.

Mr. Calil, Mr. Mann and the rest of them should rot in Jail, these are privileged people who believe that the law applies to others not the rich and powerful, they deserve everything they get.

This is how Mark Thatcher (son of) was described in court, he was “known as a dirty player who lives his life getting himself involved in all sorts of dubious deals that are of benefit to himself . . . Mark Thatcher quickly jumped into this boat and became part and parcel of this plot”
Still, as Mann was heard to say "It was bloody good fun"

There should be lots more entertainment to come in this with so many back stabbing liars and upper class twits involved.

What can you say about Sir Mark ? I blame the parents.

Terry,

Agree that in this day and age, we can't have adventurers going around conquering foreign lands and taking the booty.

Having said that, the "Equitoguinean" President is one of the most evil and depraved tyrants in sub-Saharan Africa - he is rumoured to eat the testicles of his opponents - something you failed to mention in your report. The average EQ peasant probably doesn't care whether their oil reserves are stolen by a Black dictator or the White man. They might even prefer the possibility that Thatcher and his dodgy chums would replace the President with somebody a bit more humane, if not democratic.

Terry:

The situation Simon Mann finds himself in is not a comic one, unless you gain amusment from reports like this:

"Most of the people arrested because of alleged links with the FDR were tortured in pre-trial incommunicado detention to force them to make statements incriminating themselves and others in the alleged coup. Many of them were tied up with rope and hung from a bar in a position that meant that the bones in their forearms, and in some cases their legs, eventually broke. They were also beaten, some severely with sticks and whips. They were blindfolded for prolonged periods.

The torture and ill-treatment of the detainees continued during the trial. Some of the defendants who told the court they wished to retract earlier statements were subsequently tortured in prison, apparently in reprisal.

The wives of two prisoners who took food to their husbands were also beaten and tortured and one of them was raped by several soldiers, according to a statement made in court by her husband."

Mann might have just been after money/power, but I for one would have cheered if he succeded.

I did not comment on the country concerned, or it’s president or anyone’s colour I just pointed out that these people are the lowest of the low and some people see them as adventurers. I hope they rot.

I find clowns like Thatcher and Mann funny in a sinister sort of way, they really are the scum of the earth.
As far as alleged torture is concerned ’let he who is without sin cast the first stone’

Amusement ? I would advise you not to buy tickets for the west end hit show “Springtime for Hitler” or indeed to watch Chaplin’s ‘Great Dictator’ humour can be a serious business.

If she can say 'rejoice just rejoice' at the huge loss of life on the Belgrans well !

'They think the law applies to others.'

So, a lot of politician potential, there then.

What a disgusting creep you are Kelly. The terrorist Mandela was imprisoned in humane conditions and,in the gospel according to Kelly, he is a martyr.

Mann is subjected to degradation and torture and, according to the same gospel, is a figure of fun.

You undoubtedly feel no shame, but by God, your family should.

If only you could bring yourself to follow your own advice Terry...

I blame your parents!

Yet you fail to condemn the human rights record of the President of Equitorial Guinea. Do you hope he rots too?

Is Retired Brig. Gen. Teodoro Obiang Nguema Mbasogo. mates with your beloved Fidel & Nelson - as you say: Let him who has no sin cast the first stone.

Terry,

You may wish to read the Amnesty International report

According to AI, there is no conclusive evidence that a coup was even attempted. Mann was arrested on the strength of some pretty spurious charges (walking on the cracks in the pavement or something)in Zimbabwe by Mad Bob's goons and deported to EG.

I'm curious as to your lamentation of a few days ago, bleating about human righs, vis a vis the 42 days farrago. So am I to take it that you only advocate human rights and the presumption of innocence for people you like? I think one thing we've both agreed on in the past is that evidence gained under torture is worthless. I take it we no longer agree on this, at least if the accused is the son of Maggie The War Criminal?

Only a disgusting creep such as you would suggest that Mandela is guilty and Mann is innocent.

I sometimes worry about your poor family. You chose the right false name to hide behind.

Like the overwhelming majority of people on the planet I couldn’t have told you who Brig. Gen. Teodoro Obiang Nguema Mbasogo was until this farce started and, also like them I couldn’t have told you where it was.

Maybe you’ve got something here Bob, maybe it never happened. I wonder if the BBC, Fox News, CNN, ITV, TV and Radio stations all over the world and Newspapers all over the world as well have thought about your brainwave. We don’t deserve you !

You take it wrong. And who tortured ‘Maggie the war criminal’s” son ?

Macnasty said...

Kelly @ 4.43
Kelly, you cretinous Councillor, who the hell suggested Mandela was guilty and Mann innocent? Certainly I didn't, because I simply dont know.

What I queried was why you should gloat over a torture victim, innocent or guilty whilst making Mandela, who was charged with similar offences but held humanely, a candidate for sainthood.

It's difficult not to conclude that you are a racist.

Anonymous said...

"Maybe you’ve got something here Bob, maybe it never happened."

I think you have a problem with written comprehension. The coup plot is "alleged" there is no concrete evidence other than hearsay and a confession obtained under torture that such a plot was ever conceived. I suggest you read the AI report.

Are you now saying that evidence gained by torture should be used to convict? I seem to remember you railing against the US authorities for the use of waterboarding not so long ago. Which is it Councillor? You can't have it both ways.

Are Osama Bin Laden and his ilk just another band of mischievious adventurers?

Anonymous said...

Councillor,

I'm glad that you share the consensus that overthrow of a government (even the nasty ones) by such means is unacceptable.

So where do you stand on Che Guevara, who went round the world getting up to this sort of stuff (that was when he got tired of signing death warrants in Havana)?

I should get on to your pals in Havana and ask them to consider pulling down the posters, statues etc.

Cllr Terry Kelly said...

(Macnasty) 19/06/08

You think of Mandela as a terrorist, “who was held humanely” and I think of him as a copper bottomed hero, one of the greatest men of the 20th. century and I’m not alone.

Where does racism come into this ? Mann is IMO a mercenary, ‘someone who will kill people for money’ that is a chilling phrase, you are welcome to him.

You stick to your story Bob, you might even convince yourself.

I thought Bin Laden and his followers were fighting a religious war, a crusade if you will.

Then again you’ve got me thinking, no one really knows if he exists and even if he does he hasn’t been found guilty of anything so, I’m going for the “Bob Flowers defence”

I get to decide (like Bob)who the good guys and the bad guys are. You are a great loss to the legal profession Bob.

No I don’t, I believe the Cuban Revolution was just so was the struggle against Apartheid, The Russian Revolution, The French Revolution etc. etc.

No one elected Batista, only white supremacists voted in S. Africa and no one voted for the Bourbons.

"And who tortured ‘Maggie the war criminal’s” son ?"

I don't recall mentioning Mark Thatcher being tortured. I'm not even sure if Mann was. However, if you'd taken the trouble to actually read what I said, I talked of evidence gained under torture. The evidence, that is, which led to warrants being issued against Thatcher, Mann and others. I'm fairly sure that you'd be damned concerned if it was someone you liked being left to the vagaries of a vicious regime, and I'd agree with you. You seem to suspend your zeal for human rights and the pursuit of justice when the victim is someone you don't like. Hardly humanitarian, is it?

Kelly @ 4.25
Kelly, Mandela was found guilty (without torture) and you call him a 'great man.'

Mann has not yet been tried, but, prejudging the trial, you say he's guilty. He HAS been tortured, yet you find him a figure of fun.

This adds up to 'Black good, White bad,' and in my book, that's racist.

Cllr Terry Kelly said...

(Macnasty) 20/06/08

The South African Apartheid regime were just about the most evil vicious characters ever assembled, I congratulate Mandela on fighting them.

Mann and the rest of them are mercenaries who will kill anyone, women, children, black, white any religion or race with one proviso, you have to pay them, you are in good company.

Macnasty said...

Kelly @ 2.04
So, the S.A apartheid regime were 'just about the most vicious characters ever assembled.'

Any comments on Mad Bob's current regime in Zimbabwe, Councillor?

Or maybe we could have your opinion on whether the poor sods who live there would prefer their old colonial masters...or even Ian Smith?

And that sainted criminal Mandela, why is his voice unheard whilst murder is being committed on his doorstep?

Anonymous said...

Cllr,
I find Thatcher and co as loathsome as you do and would love to see them brought to justice but I cannot support torture no matter how repulsive the recipient.

Barlinnie is full of people who'd maim and kill for a few quid. Gangsters who'd do just about anything for money. Rapists who refuse to contain their worst instincts but despite this I'd still be up and arms if they were tortured and believe they should be treated humanely.

Sometimes it's the most unsympathetic characters that are the greatest test of our humanity.

Anonymous said...

"Mann and the rest of them are mercenaries who will kill anyone, women, children, black, white any religion or race with one proviso, you have to pay them"

Whereas the ANC, PAC, SWAPO, ZANU, ZAPO, Frelimo et al were completely indiscriminate in their acts of intimidation, torture and murder. All with the help of your friends from Cuba.

Cllr Terry Kelly said...

(Macnasty) 21/06/08

You sound as if you are almost at the point of saying what you really feel about race - go for it, you will feel better, I doubt if I could print it though.

Bring back the good old days of Ian Smith and S.A. under Apartheid right ? Go on say it, what kind of a white supremacist are you ? You are a disgrace to the Klan.

Cllr Terry Kelly said...

(Jennifer) 21/06/08

I agree with you about torture but, your use of Barlinnie prisoners as an analogy is well wide of the mark, Barlinnie nor any other prison doesn’t have many Mark Thatcher’s or Simon Mann’s. in it.

Cllr Terry Kelly said...

(Templeton Peck) 11:44

I think there is a vast difference between people who get involved in violence for political reasons and filth like these mercenaries.

You may not like them and you may disagree with their cause and their methods but they are not driven by personal gain.

History reveals many instances where people resorted to violence against despots and were later vindicated, Fidel is a good example of that.

Kelly @ 9.09

When all else fails, accuse your opponent of racism. Terry, you're a pillock

The questions, as usual when addressing you, are simple -(1) Do you believe ordinary Zimbabweans, irrespective of colour, would choose Mad Bob, over Britain or Ian Smith?

(2) Do you regard Mandela's silence on the situation in Zimbabwe as disgraceful?

Anonymous said...

"I believe the Cuban Revolution was just"

Oh it was "just" alright. Just for the benfit of Fidel and his cronies.

Cllr Terry Kelly said...

1/ No.
2/ No.

Look at the history of countries who have been ruled by imperialists, India, Burma, S.A. Ireland Etc. The road to freedom for them is a long difficult one.

Mandela has commented before on Zimbabwe but he is perhaps past involvement now, maybe we could get Margaret Thatcher or Michael Foot to advise them.

Cllr Terry Kelly said...

So, the road to freedom for countries that have been ruled by Imperialists, is long and difficult.

Not for Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Jamaica, it wasn't.

And in case you didn't know, India happens to be the largest democracy on earth.

And reassure your readers - even you cannot really believe that Zimbabweans would choose Mad Bob over a benevolent Imperial Governor General

Cllr Terry Kelly said...

“Not for Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Jamaica, it wasn't”

You should tell that to a) The native Canadian Indian b) The native Australian Aborigine c) The native New Zealand Maori and d) the Jamaicans who have been murdered, they regularly come in the top three for murder rates in the world and I believe they came top last year.

India ? They have a history of bloodshed, squalor, and poverty second to none.

Cllr Terry Kelly said...
