THE FAMILY OF MAN.

When I see people in America saluting the flag and stating their allegiance to their great country it brings on laughter, mainly because it's so false, it's cringe making.
The suggestion that we should have a citizenship ceremony as is being suggested is right up there with the crazies, it's a whole load of garbage.

Lord Goldsmith suggests Citizenship ceremonies at the age of 18, he wants everyone to swear allegiance to Queen and country.
The words swear and Queen often come to mind but not in the way he suggests, he did concede however that this would be impossible in Northern Ireland.

There are many republicans in Britain who would never accept an allegiance to the Queen or anyone else who is unelected, many are of course obliged to do this by force or they would not be allowed to join the Military or the Police or become MP's etc.
Perhaps though this would get wee Alex (the spiv) to come off the fence, it would be hilarious to see him come up with some hoax which would allow him to remain a humble servant of the British Monarchy, and the Prime Minister of an independent Scotland.

When I'm abroad I tell people I'm British for 3 reasons 1/ it's true and 2/ it saves time and 3/ I couldn't care less about such matters so I just make it as easy as possible.
When at home or in England I say Scottish and if English people knowing I'm Scottish ask me where I'm from I usually say Glasgow just to save time so origins don't mean a lot to me.

Flags, Allegiances and Anthems are divisive and cause no end of trouble, I would scrap the lot and replace every flag with 1 depicting the planet earth and replace all the anthems with 1 which celebrates our common humanity, I would gladly swear allegiance to that.
This would put an end to all bickering about origin and race as the last time I checked we were all from earth and were all human, "if you prick me do I not bleed" said Shylock and he was right. I say this despite some of the people who write to my blog.

We should dump this idea before it starts.

Terry;

In your thesis of life you miss out the subject of religion, which as a singular entity has caused more wars, death and destruction than any nationalistic patriotism known to man kind.

Could I ask the reason for this blatant omittion?.

Terry:

As a staunch monarchist, I find myself agreeing with you about swearing an oath to the Queen. I don't want some sullen republican doing homageto Her Majesty Elizabeth II. Only those who want to should do so. Anything else would be an insult to our head of state.

Why is it cringe making to be proud to be an American?

After all, you are proud to be a socialist and that makes me cringe but I don't for a moment believe your allegiance is false.

'We should dump this idea before it starts.'

Listen up, you Renfrew Robespierre, there are NOT many Republicans in Britain who would 'never swear allegiance to the Queen.' This is because there are not many British Republicans.

And Kelly, as an Admirer of Very Dubious Dictators, I'm not convinced that the few Republicans we do have will enjoy having you as their spokesman.

Anyone who refuses to swear allegiance to Queen and country is a traitor and should be executed by firing squad.

I didn’t say it was cringe making to be an American, nor did I suggest their allegiance is false.

Perhaps you could explain, without using a thousand words please.

Was it not wee Max. himself who said “ I love the sound of Tumbrils in the morning, it sounds like liberty”

a great wee guy. A true comrade.

Yet again I have to repeat an earlier blogger - you missed out religion.
You are so totally selective, however...
A committed member of the catholic church? - well Terry, what have you, as a man for equality for all, got to say about the opinions that a Mr Devine from Motherwell is spouting in the name of your religion?
Not your "all inclusive" "multi" there is it??
But then religion never was nor ever "will be".

Robespierre ' A great wee guy, a true comrade.'

You got that one right only if your taste is for champagne socialists.

His name was de Robespierre, he was a lawyer, and the son of lawyers, he went to one of the best schools in France and he was arrested by the True Workers and given the guillotine haircut in 1794.

But I guess this is what makes him the Kelly role model - he was born out of wedlock and the maternal grandpop was a brewer.

Councillor;

Nice of you to answer my question.

As it goes, I've just witnessed a garden fence push the self destruct button, and in doing so, kill and maim hundreds of innocent Gnomes.

I condem this barbaric act unreservedly, and my first thoughts are for the families of the gnomes whos deep losses must indeed be a tragedy at this moment in time.

These waring gateposts must be stopped!...

Your support for this kind of lunacy confirms my opinion of it.

Firing squad is too good for them, it’s a good boot up the a--- they need.

You’ve got me wrong about religion I’m not the most religious person you could meet.
I’ve commented on this subject often enough will again and suffice to say I will burn in hell according to Joe Devine.

What does all this mean ? wee Max. is hardly a secretive figure is he.

I believe he had bad teeth as well and he used to stand on tiptoe behind his lectern when speaking to look bigger.

What a guy.

If it isn’t something you said it must be something else. Did you pass a test to get into the Army ?

I hate these posts where we are have to try to work out, and respond to, not what you said, but what you imagine you said.....

I think I’ve told you this before, if people don’t understand what you are saying, you are not as clever as you think you are.

".. and you can thank your lucky stars you're not as smart as you like to think you are"

No need to worry about swearing oaths anymore. Brenda has poured scorn on the whole idea.

Scunnered, O'Aberdein said...

Agreed. But, while I'd like to think that that was because you subscribed to what you wrote in your last response, I fear that the inherent irony in that tautology might have passed you by. It would be nice to be wrong.

Why ?

Cllr Terry Kelly said...

OK everyone knows you’re clever and, everyone knows you like to let us know that but, please can you try to just say what you mean and stop being so pompous.
You are causing discomfiture and consequently making me recoil with mortification for you.

Brenda = HRH.

Even Her Maj thinks the idea is potty. Don't blame her really. Imaging have to stand around while a bunch of spotty chavs pick their noses and swear an oath they neither mean nor understand.
