CORINTHIAN SPIRIT SEEDORF V HYPOCRITE PROVAN

France 0 Scotland ! Lyon 0 Rangers 3 Celtic 2 AC Milan 1 what is going on ? unfortunately the biggest talking point generated by these astonishing results was the fan who ran on to the pitch and hit the Milan keeper with a baseball bat.

Fantastic results and you can say that Lyon were lucky they didn't have to face Hibs and Milan lucky no to have to face Gretna, I was lucky to catch a TV post match interview with Milan's Clarence Seedorf, a genuinely great player who has won 17 medals and 83 international caps 4 of those medals are European Champions winners, with 3 different clubs, Ajax, Real Madrid and AC Milan a footballing giant who also showed us how to lose with good grace.

Seedorf praised Celtic and congratulated them and their fans without a hint of rancour, still sweating from his exertions he was the image of dignity and fair play a true Corinthian.

Davie Provan writes appropriately enough for 'The News of the World' he had a right go at the Milan keeper for feigning injury and I was cast back in time to a game between Celtic and Hearts.

Playing on the left wing for Hearts that night was the 38 yr. old (ex Rangers) Willie Johnstone he went to take a throw in and a Celtic player stood in front of him to make the throw awkward, they were nose to nose, Johnstone took the throw and they 'brushed foreheads' down went the Celtic player ' shot by an elephant gun' off went Johnstone who retired from the game that night, the Cheating Celtic player ? yep, none other than the sanctimonious critic of the Milan keeper, Davie Provan, a fine player and a 100 % hypocrite. His main concern when he stepped on to the field of play was not to get hurt, thank god for players like Seedorf !

Your sectarianism is showing again.

A mate of a mate is a camera supervisor for Sky. Apparently that goal was covered because the two cameras are locked on it in the final 5 minutes and the operators get hand held cameras to go into the tunnel to get the reaction interviews.

I suggested it was a pity that one of them was not trained on the stand as then we could have got pictures of the muzzle flash as the sniper downed the AC goalkeeper seconds afterwards!!!!

Straight question: what is (in your opinion) the appropriate punishment for Celtic and what should the punishment be for AC and their goalkeeper. For the record my ideas would be

1) Nothing, as Celtic have responded by banning the individual. Maybe ask that Celtic review their stewarding contract.

2) Tell AC Milan to terminate the contract of their goalkeeper under pain of expulsion as he clearly is untrustworthy and therefore is liable to put referees in horrible positions (ie. if he is involved in a dispute with a player the ref has to think "this guy is shifty" in making his call).

Henry Crun - You've lost me.

RFS - I would punish Celtic in line with other precedents which would mean a Fine, some people might think this lenient but I don't think there's anything else clubs can do to stop someone who is really determined to get on the field, other than caging them in which would IMO be unacceptable.

The Milan Goalie ? He will never live it down but punishing him would be difficult, we would have to consider the others, Hutton of Rangers 'brushed foreheads' with a Lyon player and feigned injury last week, even Archie McPherson said "oh dear me" he ( Hutton ) won't want to see that again.

Two seasons ago an Inverness player was sent off after 'brushing foreheads' with arguably one of the toughest nuts in the game Neil Lennon who went down stricken, this is the same Neil Lennon who took a full blown deliberate kick in the face from Alan Shearer and didn't flinch.

I would love to see it stopped but I don't know how. I blame Capitalist values !

How can anyone who talks - mainly -good sense about sport come out with such a load of cobblers on politics?

Just reassure me that your kind words about Willie Johnstone weren't because he was a left-winger.

I know it's a long shot but are you and Wille O'Dea related? You share a certain political style.

I suppose the jibe was a little over your head. So far over that you would't have even seen the contrail.

Never mind.

RfS said...

Of course you do!!!

I agreed with something I heard on Radio Clyde where the caller suggested that any fine be reclaimed from the stewards (who are likely to be the woeful Rock Steady) which I think is only fair. I mean, this appeals to both your socialism and my capitalism. I think you should get what you pay for and Celtic did not and you will think an honest days pay for an honest days work which I think someone was not doing.

You are right about precedents, although I naturally think all professional footballers are a bit soft. A good high profile sacking would help. I think he did what he did because AC need him more than he needs them, if he got sacked he would walk into any other team. But if he got sacked and maybe prevented from playing for a year - well, that would cut out all this play acting.

Henry Crun - If you have made a 'jibe' which went over my head I would regard that as a humiliation for me because you are a white S.A. and, therefore de facto a person with a useless education which was handed to you in a system where whites were not allowed to fail.

Explain the 'jibe'

It was never proven that there was an intent on Shearer's part - that coming from someone who dislikes the man for being an overrated loser.

Henry Crun - If you have made a 'jibe' which went over my head I would regard that as a humiliation for me because you are a white S.A. and, therefore de facto a person with a useless education which was handed to you in a system where whites were not allowed to fail.

Funny how you should blast Mr. Crun's education when your description bears an uncanny resemblance to Britain's 'education' system under New Labour.

Cllr Terry Kelly said...

RFS - Professional footballers a bit soft ? I remember a compound ankle fracture, missing teeth, broken thumb, broken ribs, ligament damage torn cartilage and more stitches than you'll find in a 'Fair Isle Jumper' and I never got anywhere near 'Professional'

Among others, I played against Archie Gemmell who was like a Rottweiller and played with David Hay who would have scared the S--- out of most rugby players by gazing benevolently in their general direction.

rfs & Councillor Kelly having a love-in?

Has the world gone mad???

Cllr Terry Kelly said...

(c4') - difficult to follow this - you clearly didn't see the Shearer/Lennon incident - which one do I consider to be the " overrated loser" ?

You missed the point about the quality of education for S.A. whites under Apartheid sports as well, jobs as well etc. And I left school in 19 61 ?

Cllr Terry Kelly said...

Byeck - RFS is a right wing reactionary racist thug, is that better ?

Anonymous said...

"You missed the point about the quality of education for S.A. whites under Apartheid "

So did you apparently. Education in SA was not funded by taxpayers per se but largley by the parents in the form of school fees. The education I received was due to my own father having to work hard (perhaps you've heard of it) in order to pay for mine and my brother's education.

My younger brother had, what would now be termed "special needs" and attended a private school.

Again you display complete ignorance about a country which you have never visited.

Good on yer Sport - I thought you were trying to kiss and make up with RFS and I was going to have to be nice to you, but now that what passes for normal service on the Kelly Blog has been resumed.....

Phah, luxury. I played a game with a broken hand then drove home and only went to hospital when the wife thought an hour to wash in the shower (while yelping) was a bit much.

And it is never the gaze that should frighten, it is when you can't see them anymore that you should worry.

Cllr Terry Kelly said...

Henry Crun - Your father exploited native S.A.'s to buy you an education just like the rest of the privileged white population, have you ever wondered how Apartheid S.A. Managed to punch above it's weight in sports ? Pro. Tennis players, pro. Golfers etc. all white of course.

Would your father have been able to pay for your school fees if he had been in the same situation as the black people he was exploiting ?

We now come to an unsavoury development - what has your young brother got to do with any of this or put more succinctly why have you decided to use him, why am I receiving unsolicited information about him ? Your brother has my every sympathy and you have my complete contempt for using him. Are there any depths you will not stoop to ?

Cllr Terry Kelly said...

RFS Broken hand ? whose was it ?

"Pro. Tennis players, pro. Golfers etc. all white of course"

Tiger Woods & the Williams sisters & Vhandra Rubin apart, how many black pro golfers & tennis players are there? Perhaps the US and rest of the Western world are as guilty as SA in promoting tennis and golf amongst minority ethnic communities.

Then again having played amateur football in SA with many black players your contention is yet again baseless.

Anonymous said...

"Your father exploited native S.A.'s to buy you an education just like the rest of the privileged white population."

Please explain. By that logic you are exploiting the good people of Ferguslie by taking up a job that could be done by someone much more competent than yourself. Judging by your comments on this blog, I can see that wouldn't be too hard.

To illustrate the point that education was not free despite having special education needs. You really are quite thick, aren't you.

Cllr Terry Kelly said...

Henry Crun - white S.A. 6 million ? Does that impact on your pathetic theory ?

Cllr Terry Kelly said...

Henry Crun - I'm happy with this, you and the other whites who exploited the people in S.A. including your father succeeded because of your colour and willingness to rule by terror.

I'll ask you again, could your father have payed your school fees if he had been black ?

Cllr Terry Kelly said...

Henry Crun - You are a liar Henry, I might be many things and I have done things in my life which I'm not particularly proud of but, if I was ever to use my brother with special needs to try to get the better of an opponent I would die of shame, you S.A.'s are wonderful people aren't you.

He wouldn't have needed to, for black children there were no school fees.

Cllr Terry Kelly said...

H.C. - That's interesting Henry why did you pay if education was free ?
Why didn't black families pay to get into your school , did they prefer their own, did they have better facilities, provided by a benevolent Apartheid state ?

Henry cut it how you like, you and your family chose Apartheid, chose to exploit people because of their colour, chose to rule by state terror, All together now - "I've never met a nice S.A."

Anonymous said...

"That's interesting Henry why did you pay if education was free ? "

You really are thick aren't you.

Education was free for black students, the government paid for it. Presumably out of taxpayers money so the white taxpayers subsidised the schooling for black children. Education was not free for white students, it had to be paid for in the form of school fees.

How much simpler an explanation ddo you need.

Anonymous said...

"Henry cut it how you like, you and your family chose Apartheid, chose to exploit people because of their colour, blah blah blah!"

My family didn't exactly choose Apartheid. You see, back in the mid-sixties my dad was working for a company which worked on several high level govt contracts which were cancelled when Wilson came to power and a large part of the workforce was made redundant. My dad, being a life long labour supporter was devastated. But rather than go on the dole or run for town councillor, he was offered a place on a government emigration scheme and was taken to South Africa on a ticket paid for by the Labour Government. So if anyone was responsible for my family "choosing" apartheid, it was the Labour govt of the day.

So like it or not and as much as you will deny, you are guilty by association for the promotion of apartheid.

Cllr Terry Kelly said...

H.C. - Now I'm really confused, why if education was free did you not avail yourself of it ? Why did your heroic, hard working dad not save the expense and send you to the free school ? Why do I have to repeat so many questions to you Henry ?

Why didn't black families pay to get into your school , did they prefer their own, did they have better facilities, provided by a benevolent Apartheid state ?

Why did you and your family choose to exploit black people by taking a conscious decision to embrace Apartheid ?

Cllr Terry Kelly said...

Print the original comments and prove it. There's only one parasite on this site. I'll give you a clue - he leeches money from the public purse under false pretenses of doing a job. The Labour party and Gordy must be so proud.

RFS - "Interesting how you tell us that you don't hate anyone. It certainly looks like you hate white South Africans with a cold fury." You misquote me yet again I said "I try not to hate anyone" And yet again you are wrong I don't 'hate white S.A.'s with a cold fury', that would imply that I hate white S.A.'s who opposed Aparthied and suffered as many did for their honourable stand. In the same way as many Israeli's are doing now by opposing the Israeli Apartheid.

Is this laziness or lies ?

Cllr Terry Kelly said...

Henry Crun work for the SADF medical staff treating Africans in the township for disease and injuries caused by the polices, army colleauges and the ANC. Doesn't that qualify as opposing Aparthied because if that weren't the case, he wouldn't have bothered to help any African and joined in with the racists. Isn't that any honourable stand?!?

Have you ever had a real conversation (as opposed to online mudslinging) with a South African, white or otherwise?
