Watching the foreign news channels earlier I saw the demolition of 20/30 Palestinian homes by Israeli Bulldozers; a brutal show of bullying by a world super power against a helpless people who have nothing. These actions are going on every day in Palestine while we stand on the side lines wringing our hands; Israel continues to defy the UN and the rest of the world and gets away with it because America supports them; if America said stop they would but; so strong is the Israeli lobby in America that they daren’t say it; war crimes are being committed by Israel and the world does nothing because of the Israeli influence on American society; when will it stop?
Also on the same channel (Press TV) reports were shown from Cairo where Egypt had stopped the Viva Palestina aid convoy heading for beleaguered Gaza; thousands of volunteers were there from all over the world and they were carrying nothing more dangerous than medicine and babies nappies. The convoy workers who were interviewed were quite inspirational; among them were Rabbis from Britain; France; America and Israel itself all demanding that relief be allowed in to Gaza; this of course gives the lie to those who immediately shout anti Semite at anyone who is critical of Israel; there were too many Israeli flags on view to allow that jibe to stand. One very distinguished and ancient looking old Rabbi from Manchester with his black hat and long beard was asked what he hoped to achieve and he said “to bring relief to the suffering and to show the world that Zionism is not Judaism and Judaism is not Zionism; Zionism is an affront to Judaism” hugely humble and uplifting.
These brave people will not go away as long as the Israeli state persecutes Palestinians and treats them in an inhuman way these people will be sustained in the belief that they have right on their side. While this goes on; while a British MP (George Galloway) is expelled and barred from entering Egypt; while infants die of diseases which the convoy can provide cures for they are not allowed to enter Gaza; how long Lord! how long! The biggest disgrace of all is that we can’t see any of this on our national TV channels; why? why do we have to rely on minority channels like Press TV and Al Jazeera to see what is happening; turning a blind eye to the suffering of these innocent people for fear of America opprobrium is becoming Britain’s shame. The BBC refused to advertise an appeal for help for the people of Gaza which was a disgrace and now they refuse to show us what is going on but we still claim the high moral ground over countries like Iran; what utter hylocrisy; write to your MP’s; MSP’s; MEP’s; anyone you can think of; look at the Palestinian appeal details at the front of this blog and do something; for God’s sake do something.

Hi,
Can't dispute what you say, but is this not a job for your friend Douglas Alexander ??? Why does he not do something ???
(Anonymous) 11/01/10
Singling out one man rather suggests a different agenda is apparent; it’s a job for everyone and anyone who believes in justice and fairness.
You said " Singling out one man rather suggests a different agenda is apparent; it’s a job for everyone and anyone who believes in justice and fairness. "
I have no agenda but Douglas is the man to do or say something. A million times more effective than you or me. What is stopping him ???

“I have no agenda but Douglas is the man to do or say something”
Well; are you ignorant of the situation or do you have your own anti Labour anti Douglas Alexander agenda? Alexander is the minister for International Development; the main players from all countries are leaders and foreign secretaries.
He has made his position clear on many occasions and he has visited Gaza and done what he can to help with the regeneration of the area; he has helped to make Britain the second biggest donor to the rebuilding of Gaza.
He has made and is making his contribution; the real power is with America and Israel ignored Obama’s pleas as well; you need to do a bit more work on this and try harder not to let your bias show.
My goodness MrK, the person 'anonymous' commenting about Douglas Alexander does have a point to make. Why must you be so antagonistic in your reply?
Not everyone who bothers to read your, mostly, rubbish has an agenda.
You put your view into the public domain and you solicit responses. There is no need I think, to be insulting, rude, or even paranoid about the ones you get.

The fact that he named Douglas Alexander as the main man in all of this highlights either his ignorance of the situation or points to someone with an agenda against Alexander. What have I said that is antagonistic; insulting; rude or paranoid? I’ve pointed out the truth. I would guess that you are either the same anonymous writer or you share his agenda or ignorance.
Although I do not agree with your views regarding politics at home here in Scotland, you do say a lot of sensible things in this post.
Gaza is akin to a vast prison camp. I watched the Ross Kemp programmes recently and was appalled at what is happening there.
I'm not sure if antagonising the Egyptians and Israeli governments is the best way forward though. Something that strikes me is that Israel is actually a multi cultural state, perhaps there is a way forward in appealing to this latent multi culturalism. Maybe a vein that a prominent activist could take forward.
I do think that you are being harsh re the comments about Douglas Alexander. He could do a lot more. He could publically make a statement and use stronger language in support of basic human rights that are being infinged by Israel. It might upset the apple cart within the Labour Party. And before you cry "Agenda!" I'm no Labour supporter but they are the Government at Westminster and they do have a permanent seat on the UN Security Council, so no excuses really for not saying more.

If you look at Douglas Alexander’s involvement in the issue you will see that he has made strong statements against Israel and in support of the Palestinians.
Our problem is the same as everyone else’s including the U.N. Israel has illegal WMD’s and is in defiance of many U.N. resolutions; it is also in breach of U.N. instructions to stop building settlements on Palestinian land and they disregard them all.
There are 3 countries who take part in this noncompliance; Israel + another small country whose name escapes me and America; the problem is not one Labour MP. Concentrating on Douglas Alexander just makes it look like a partisan attack for reasons which don’t really relate to the Middle East.
Britain has repeatedly voted against Israel at the Security Council; America treats us with disdain; we need to stand up to America first. We should start treating Israel as the pariah state that it is and if the USA don’t like it then sod them; we will have right on our side.
Thanks for the reply.
Do you have any thoughts about my comments re Israel's multi culturalism? Perhaps an appeal to the parts of their society that are prepared to take a softer view. They could then apply pressure internally on their government. Just a thought...
Another thought; do we in Scotland engage with the Scottish Jewish community on this subject?
Hi, It's me with the so called agenda again. Ok if Douglas has done all he can - And I don't think he has - why do you want us all to write to him and his fellow MPs and MSPs ???
And just to extand my agenda, was Tony Blair not appointed as some kind of middle east peace envoy ? what has happened there ?
(Anonymous) 13/01/10
I don’t know whether Douglas or anyone has done all he can I never said that; I know his position on the Middle East and I support that.
We as individuals are limited in what we can do; writing to elected representatives is recommended by every pressure group and as someone who has been i9nvolved in politics for approx 45 years I can assure you that they take notice of constituent’s calls and letters etc. I write to them and the press and my blog as well as boycotting everything I can to do with Israel just as we did with South Africa. And sending donations to help the Palestinians.
Well I suppose if it’s not one Labour figure’s fault then it’s another; I expect Blair will be joining with diplomats from all corners of the world in trying to negotiate a settlement; that kind of thing. You seem to be fixated on what you would like us to believe are Labours failures or am I imagining things?
I am aware that there are many courageous Jews in Israel as well as Jewish groups who demonstrate their opposition to Israel’s policy on Palestine and they assert what pressure they can in a hostile environment.
The Scottish Jewish community engage with us on this subject; in Glasgow there is a group called “Jews for Peace” who do a great job opposing Israel’s treatment of the Palestinians, you can find them on Google.
Actually agree with what you are saying Mr Kelly but there are too many people with an interest in keeping this situation going.
Have you seen your fellow Paisley blog at Paisley Expressions latest post? If people can do that to their own countrymen to suit their agenda then what hope for the Palestinians.

There are two key perpetrators America and Israel and they are the ones that need to be worked on most.
The guy who writes the site you refer to is not really taken seriously; the stuff he writes about 9/11 is a good example of why.
He also claims that it was the Labour Govt. who were responsible for the London bombings; I think that he claims that they were also responsible for killing Bambi’s mother as well; and don't get him started on the moon landings which definitely didn't happen.
I have just been to the Dr Judy Wood site link he provides on Paisley Expressions Mr Kelly that he bases his facts on - Are you saying she is talking rubbish as well?
If these two scientists are suing the American government and a load of American companies over their involvement in 911 they must have the facts surely. You cannot sue with lies or conspiracy.
If this guy is putting out lies about the UK and US governments then why don't they do something about it Mr Kelly?
(Anonymous) 17:15
I have exchanged several comments with you and I had formed the opinion that you were quite rational; if this is not a wind up and you are serious then I will have to think again.
“If this guy is putting out lies about the UK and US governments then why don't they do something about it Mr Kelly?”
I have already explained why; he is not taken seriously.
I am being quite rational Mr Kelly it is you that is not.
The guy on Paisley Expressions gives out links to where you can get the evidence to his claims.
You did not answer whether you believed the two scientists who are suing the American government and the US companies are talking rubbish as well.
If this guy is talking rubbish then you must think that they are talking rubbish.
(Anonymous) 15/01/10
“You did not answer whether you believed the two scientists”
Correct and I have no intention of answering; nor do I have any intentions of taking Paisley Expressions seriously; if you want to read this stuff and give it any credence then good for you.
Maybe Egypt was just following the Labour Party in expelling George Galloway.
(Anonymous) 17:34
Egypt was rolling over when told by America.
You hate George Galloway- a man who, despite his many faults has done more for socialism than you ever will. Your concern at his treatment in Egypt is just synthetic rage.
You may know the MP Mohammed Sarwar- why don't you ask him about receiving a text message announcing Galloways expulsion from the Labour party AN HOUR BEFORE IT HAPPENED. In other words they'd made their minds up before Galloway had the chance to make his case.
I know you'll call me a liar so why don't you contact Mohammed Sarwar and ask him if what I say is true. He will back up this version of events 100%. Im writing in my real name so you cant call me anonymous.
What are you doing to fight the perversion of Labour party rules by people who'd use the party for their own Murdoch loving careerist ends?
Gaby Nolan.
I don’t hate George Galloway; I was very sad when he was thrown out just as I was when we lost Arthur Scargill; Tommy Sheridan and others. I can say however with hindsight that George got exactly what he wanted; expelled and if you don’t know that by now you are a fool.
The rest of your comment is dim-witted garbage and telling me that you are Gaby Nolan means nothing. Take a leaf out of my book and declare your name, address and political affiliations ; I doubt if you will especially the last of the three out of embarrassment.
I have declared my name. I won't put my full address on a public forum but I live in Pollokshields in Glasgow. I am a Labour voter and lapsed party member. I have a dog called Sally as well. What else do you want to know?
You keep using a Ben Gurion quote on this blog which has proven to be falsely attributed. Will you remove it and make a full apology?
http://www.camera.org/index.asp?x_print=1&x_context=6&x_article=1521
(Anonymous) 23/01/10
I most certainly will not; The Ben Gurion quote is accurate; if I had to apologise then so would a great many journalists; I lifted it from one of them; also authors and politicians.
I’m quite happy to publish your comment because anyone who follows the link will find out in seconds that you are referring to people who are completely pro Israel and only concerned with trying to tarnish anyone who attacks Israel; it’s propaganda dead simple.
If you want to see an example of genuine false attribution then look up the alleged quote by the Iranian President about wiping Israel from the face of the map; that is a massive propaganda lie.
I can’t see any reason why I should trust someone who attacks me in such a way and refuses to identify them self; I still know nothing about you not even your name.
“What else do you want to know?”
Let’s assume you are genuine; what is it about me that compels you to write in such a way; please drop the gratuitous insults and try to make some sensible argument.
Feel free to ask me anything and I will try to answer as best I can.
Cllr Kelly
".... then look up the alleged quote by the Iranian President about wiping Israel from the face of the map; that is a massive propaganda lie."
The original translation for this quote came from the official Iranian State News website. The last time I checked, the same translation was available on Ahmedinejad's own website under "speeches".
If there was an attempt to create a flurry in the press over the "wipe Israel off the page of history" comment, it originated in Tehran. This is a fairly common practice.
(Anonymous) 24/01/10
It was deliberately misinterpreted by Israel and those who support Israel it was a massive propaganda lie; or perhaps Israel wouldn’t tell lies or indulge in Propaganda; what do you reckon?
'Wipe Israel off the map.'
See you've moved on from 'Israel lied' to 'Israel misinterpreted.'
Caught out in yet another anti Israel lie, Kelly
(Byeck) 25/01/10
When someone ‘deliberately’ misinterprets something they are lying; you shouldn’t really find this too difficult; even you.
