SALMOND (THE SPIV) THE TIMEROUS WEE ROYAL TOADY.

One year on from the SNP minority win and we seem to have stopped talking about Queen Betty.
I remember years ago when Nationalism was the preserve of what was called the lunatic fringe of politics, the Queen was to be first against the wall, she was Queen of England and she would have to go, come independence.
Please don't make the mistake of thinking this was funny, this was deadly serious, every Nationalist held fast to this part of the faith, she was not the Queen of Scotland and never would be.

"Scotland hasnae got a King and she hasnae got a Queen
how can there be a second Liz. when the first wans never been"

This elegant little piece of doggerel was sung to the tune of "The Sash My Father Wore" at SNP gatherings everywhere and they gave it laldy, big hairy rough Nationalists with wee daggers and big bottles of whiskey belted it out, and the men were every bit as bad, 'wee fund raising ceilidhs' regularly turned into tartan 'Nuremberg Rallies' only a wee bit less aggressive.

What has happened to that fervour, how did we get from that to " we can see no reason for not having the Queen, (Betty that is) as the head of the Scottish state" (Alex 'the Spiv' Salmond) SNP leader.
In those days there would have been "blood and hair on the walls Salmond (the spiv) would have been filleted by a hundred of they wee daggers that they hide down their socks.

The serious side of course is that those Nationalists were indeed the lunatic fringe but, they were sincere, absolutely no shades of grey, they meant what they said about the English and their bogus Queen, they were proud of their beliefs and their beliefs were sacrosanct.
Where are they now? some are still around, some in fact are in the council chamber, skulking and neutered of course but no doubt still dreaming of the future Scottish Kings and Queens but it's only ever going to be a dream now, they won't be carrying anyone "over the sea to Sky" not ever.

Like many other things, such as SNP claims to be on the left as well as the monarchy it's all been dumped by 'the spiv' he is afraid to even suggest that Betty is not the rightful monarch of an independent Scotland, to him and many Nationalists of a more modern stripe it was never going to happen.

Singing and stamping the feet is one thing, restoring the rightful Scottish heir is a different kettle of haggis, it's not even funny any more, in a strange way it's rather sad, all those passionate wooly headed sincere Nationalists have been conned by (Alex the spiv) will they ever rise again ? I doubt it.

IT never rains but, The highest prize for the manufacture of Malt Whiskey has been won by, wait for it, a Japanese company.
"Yoichi 20 year old" has won Whisky Magazine's first prize, there will be a lot of "ochoneing ochoneing" as well as girning in the hills and glens. That wee guy Nackawhatsit ? that plays with the Celtic, him that can open a tin of peas with his left foot, he better get a body guard.

Still they can take our lives, our whisky, our oil, but, will never, ever take our stinking weather !

I’ll get to that but, maybe you could, just for a change stick to the point.

Would you care to give me Salmond (the spiv’s) reason for his historic ‘u’ turn on the rightful heirs to the Scottish throne.

Er.. by Vera Baird's definition Elizabeth II is the rightful queen of Scotland.

Easy- Political expedience. At the moment overt republicanism is detrimental to the pressing goal of political independence from Westminster by being a divisive issue amongst the electorate.
You are creating a false dichotomy though. One leader is trying to the best their nation, the other is trying to save their rapidly imploding political party.

You are a clown. An entertaining clown, but nevertheless a complete and utter clown.

It's not a U-turn. He's been saying this for years.

Terry,
I've asked this before but perhaps this time I'll get an answer; If you're a socialist, what the f*ck are you doing representing the Labour Party?
Or is doubling the income tax paid by the lowest earners to pay for a tax cut for the better off a new kind of socialism that plebs like me simply can't understand.
Terry, you would defend the Labour party if it said we had to kill our grannies or eat our own waste. You have absolutely NO credibility.
I can see a huge switch from Labour to Lib Dem at the next general election. The Tories (the blue ones) will still win though.

You have never asked me that, never, I have never ducked that question.
I am in the Labour Party for the same reason that Tony Benn, Dennis Skinner, Ken Livingstone and thousands more like them are in it.

The Labour Party is the only vehicle which has the remotest chance of changing our society for the better, I prefer that to standing on the sideline carping, that’s for those who don’t have the stomach for the fight.

Wendy is reported to have started pushing for a vote 9 months ago.

From memory, this is around the time you were going ballistic at suggestions that you were her agent.

Given your views on independence, all is now clear - you were trying to put distance between yourself and this particular madness, but your loyalty wouldn't let you condemn her openly.

Terry, you were a lone voice, a man alone, the trailblazer, you saw her for what she is, a danger to Labour and only now is Westminster coming round to the same view.

Very well done.

He isn't the Labour party where a referendum is promised then not given because they think they might lose.

Why should he do anything other because that moron Alexander says he should? Is this one of those funny tactics like asking less questions than she could? Watch out everyone...clever Wendy is about again.

"TIMEROUS"!?

I am not unsympathetic, Councillor, my own spelling isn't too hot; and anyway, possibly you are in good company because it might have been weak spelling and not the demands of scansion which caused your own national poet to elide the letter 'o' in describing his "Wee, sleekit, cow'rin', tim'rous beastie".

Anonymous said...

Terry;

I personally fail to understand how the S.N.P.s, "We will get to the subject of a referendum in our own time", constitutes your accusation of "floundering".

I am also a tad confused why it is that: you do not support a Scottish referendum - in fact it's a complete paradox, scanning throughout the pages of this blog.

Rarely have I come across a man that detests the English with a deeper passion.

"You either don’t know what has happened to the poorer members of society under Labour or you are a liar."

Oh but we do. The poorer members have been made even poorer, feckless and unwilling to work. Whilst the Labour Party creates the client state of Labour voters intimidating them with the promise of "child benefit", "tax credits", "housing benefit" etc warning them that if they don't vote Labour the nasty Tories will take away all theri benefits.

Then the poor lambs will be in a right state. Unable to afford fags and beer and no longer able to lounge around watching Jeremy Kyle all day gorging on junk food. Horror of horrors, they may even have to work for a living and end up taking jobs from those nice immigrants that NuLab have brought in to work on slave wages.

We get it alright Councillor. Fact is, you don't. It's all boo hoo hoo, those nasty royals, they've gor more than me. And then you stamp your feet like a petulant two year old. Boo hoo hoo, the SNP are nasty, so you call them names.

You haven't yet realised that Blair and Brown sold the Labour Party's principles for the 30 pieces of silver of power. Where has it got them? The Labour Party of old, the one you yearn for is gone, dead and most likely buried at the next election along with the old Trots, Marxists and champage socialists.

Tony Benn. Don't make me laugh. He's got more money than Croesus and still makes a fortune on the theatre circuit with his banal "An Evening with Tony Benn". His own son has just sold off his share in the old family business. Why? Because they are offski. Moving lock stock and tax paying barrel to the Republic of Ireland where corporation tax is just 12%. That and to avoid his own chancellor's punitive CGT regime.

Stop living in the past. Get over yourself or go and join the Scottish Socialists. Or are they a tad too socialist for you?

I feel quite humble to have such an intellectual giant read my blog.

I have a theory that if someone sends a comment and picks out a spelling or punctuation mistake, that person doesn’t really have a point to make, they haven’t an argument.

“your own national poet”

Who made him ‘National Poet’ ? If we really need a national poet can we not do better than him ? He couldn’t write the word F--- on a steamed up window, I suppose he sells tea towels though.

Oh dear, I can't even do a cultural cringe properly. Still, if you're happy to slag off Burns who am I to complain.

"I feel quite humble". Indeed, and to paraphrase Chuchill, you have much to be humble about!

Generally, I agree with you concerning people who pick up minor grammatical errors on Blogs, in this case it was just the poetical connection that provoked my comment, not your spelling. I apologise.

The Incorrigible Plagiarist said...

Who made him ‘National Poet’ ?

Robert Burns (25 January 1759 – 21 July 1796) (also known as Rabbie Burns, Scotland's favourite son, the Ploughman Poet, the Bard of Ayrshire and in Scotland as simply The Bard) was a poet and a lyricist. He is widely regarded as the national poet of Scotland, and is celebrated worldwide. He is the best-known of the poets who have written in the Scots language, although much of his writing is also in English and a 'light' Scots dialect, accessible to an audience beyond Scotland. He also wrote in standard English, and in these pieces, his political or civil commentary is often at its most blunt.

He is regarded as a pioneer of the Romantic movement and after his death became an important source of inspiration to the founders of both liberalism and socialism. A cultural icon in Scotland and among Scots who have relocated to other parts of the world (the Scottish Diaspora), celebration of his life and work became almost a national charismatic cult during the 19th and 20th centuries, and his influence has long been strong on Scottish literature.

As well as making original compositions, Burns also collected folk songs from across Scotland, often revising or adapting them. His poem (and song) Auld Lang Syne is often sung at Hogmanay (New Year), and Scots Wha Hae served for a long time as an unofficial national anthem of the country. Other poems and songs of Burns that remain well-known across the world today, include A Red, Red Rose, A Man's A Man for A' That, To a Louse, To a Mouse, The Battle of Sherramuir, and Ae Fond Kiss.

Terry I am disabled and as a result of my health can only work part-time. I was born this way and I do my best.

Instead of rewarding me for not claiming benefits my tax has increased by £13 since the tax raise on the poor came in. I am unable to have children. I don't work 30 hours or more per week both of which rule me out of tax credits. Labour have made me worse off. I have taken advice from my local welfare rights and the social and they both tell me that I'm entitled to nothing.

What is it I don't understand about what Labour have done for the poor?
Living on £6000 a year is hard enough, I don't see why you had to make it harder. Who benefits? Certainly not me or anyone like me.

Thanks for nothing.

I take it you're not a Christy Moore fan then, Terry? His cover of "Scotland Hasnae Got a King" is a fine piece of folk music. I'll even upload it for you and your readers if you like.

Incidentally the 1950s stushie involving ERII (sic) resulted in the Court of Session ruling that the concept of unlimited Parliamentary sovereignty over the people did not apply to Scotland, where instead the people are sovereign over Parliament.

Something I'm sure a democrat such as yourself would wholeheartedly applaud.

Silly, silly man. You and your ilk using these idiotic tactics are why Labour are an irrelevance in Scotland now, and down to 24% nationally, and falling.

There is no fight, there is nothing for him to bottle, because there is no question of a referendum NOT BEING HELD! The SNP have a commitment to it. So Wendy challenged him to hold it now, so good for her, but she is not in power and has no right or expectation that Salmond will CHANGE SNP POLICY TO SUIT HER. Let her cross the house and join the SNP then maybe Salmond will listen to her, but while she is Labour why should he?

Silly tactics from a silly, a silly party, and a silly woman.

"I think it’s a mistake to let the SNP have anything on their own terms, I take it you are not political.

“I am not a violent person but if Scotland was forced out of the UK I would take up arms to defend our place in Britain and I know many many other people who are ready to do the same” “The best thing we could do is organise every unionist gun licence holder in Scotland to stage a vigil for the union outside the parliament”

This is blatant discrimination against unlicensed gun holders."

Fascinating - if I read your reply correctly you are saying that you will support armed resistance to a democratic vote on political change?

Gosh I always wondered where Mugabe got his inspiration, now I know.

Or perhaps it's the other way round.

Maybe you don’t understand politics, maybe you are being disingenuous. Politicians are entitled to challenge each other any time, that’s what they do.

You will just have to live with it, Wendy challenged him and he blinked, remember this ? “80% of Scots. want a referendum” (Salmond ’the spiv’) but he backed off, a bully and a coward.

As I explained to another comment, I just assumed that this poster was not serious. Are you saying that you think this guy is serious ?

If I were you I would involve the ‘Harry Margolis’ right away, you could become a Scottish hero like Mel Gibson, Sean Connery or even oor Wullie.

No, it is you who don't understand ADULT politics. Alexander is perfectly entitled to challenge Salmond, but on something he has agreed to anyway? That isn't a challenge that is plain dumb.

Please explain how he is a bully and coward for sticking top manifesto commitments? I could agree if he had NOT stuck to manifesto agreements, like Labour lies in their manifestos, but not for sticking to it.

You are telling lies to yourself here, you are saying that Salmond ‘the spiv’ is too honourable to go back on a manifesto promise even if he knew he could win, that is just about the most stupid or dishonest thing I have heard yet in all of this.

He has already broken manifesto promises and this is one which could win him independence if he won the referendum and you think he would not go back on his word ! This is Alex (the spiv) Salmond for god’s sake, he would poison his parents to get to the orphans outing.

Wendy frightened him off, he bottled it.

No, you are lying to yourself and trying to imagine that is what I am saying. This is bizarre that you are trying to credit me with saying something that I did not say. Whether he would go back on a manifesto commitment to hold a referendum or not is not the issue, the issue is that HE HAS NOT, and that is what is bugging you.

He has already broken manifesto promises and this is one which could win him independence if he won the referendum and you think he would not go back on his word ! This is Alex (the spiv) Salmond for god’s sake, he would poison his parents to get to the orphans outing.

But he hasn't broken this one has he? You cannot attack him for breaking manifesto commitments and at the same time attack him for not breaking them, that is plain silly and the mark of the bully and frightened schoolboy.

Wendy frightened him off, he bottled it.

I doubt very much that Alexander would frighten anyone off. This kind of tactic strengthens the SNP, which is maybe you and her goal?

Postcard from The Edge:

Greetings from Vientiane. We have been waiting for 2 days for clearance to take a mercy flight across into Burma for a parachute drop into the remote mountain regions.

Terry, please can you get on the blower to your socialist mates in Rangoon and tell them to stop playing silly buggers. There are people in need of the basics and we can't even get flyover rights.

You are lying to yourself. Independence is his raison detre or so he says, independence is massively popular or so he says.

He struts around and calls Wendy every insult he can think of always accompanied by his trade mark truculent sneer and suddenly he is challenged to put up or shut up and, the bully collapses.

Is there anything sweeter than seeing an arrogant bully getting his comeuppance ?

I take back what I said, when I consider the Forces with ‘Winco Willie’ and ‘Hooray Henry’ you probably are the type that they would employ.

The poor Burmese haven’t they suffered enough ? At least you won’t get to play with guns will you ?

Strictly NGO work - no guns allowed and the Laotians are working their socks off to help us get into Burma. Shame that you resort to ridicule when there are people dying in the streets.

Did you phone your socialist muckers? Word is that we may sneak in under cover of darkness. The air defence systems have been all but knocked out by the cyclone. Chocks away Biggles.

Are you totally devoid of any sense at all? The facts are as stated, so I am not lying to myself and you are lying to yourself. You are a minority party in Scotland and seem set to get even smaller, get over it, stop crying and move on.

He struts around and calls Wendy every insult he can think of always accompanied by his trade mark truculent sneer and suddenly he is challenged to put up or shut up and, the bully collapses.

So you say, but again you lie to yourself.

Is there anything sweeter than seeing an arrogant bully getting his comeuppance ?

What comeuppance? You've yet to say anything factual.

That’s 3 times you have sent the same post and this is the 3rd time I’m saying that Wendy called his bluff and he crumbled, I think that’s enough.

You seem to be confused, Terry. The SNP is not a republican party. Like Labour, it is a broad church and some individual party members may hold republican views but the party line is monarchist.

Apart from anything else, the current queen holds the throne because of direct descent from Mary Stuart, Queen of Scots, so she's probably more constitutionally entitled to be Queen of Scots than to be Queen of England.

“the party (SNP) line is monarchist”

Here’s another wee line from that SNP song -

“An we’ll mak oor land Republican wae the Scottish breakaway” da dee da da dum dee dee da dum etc.

My very point, they (The SNP) were republican until Salmond (the spiv) turned them into “New SNP”

And Labour were socialist until Tony Blair, Peter Mandelson and Gordon "Courage" Brown turned them into "Tory-lite"

To be honest, I couldn't give a rat about the SNP. But if they were to extend voting in the referendum on Scottish independence to the English, I'd be more than happy to support Alex Salmond.

If only to get rid of Gordon Brown and his Jockuza.
