Friday March 6Th. 07 what has been going on ? all these polls showing the loonies about to take over the asylum. We in the Labour Party have been canvassing as we always do and when we meet up to swap stories we all express amazement at the polls, we all report positive responses and no sign of any SNP surge, are the right wing press up to their dirty tricks ? probably, but today's Herald shows a dramatic leap for Labour into a 4 point lead, maybe McConnell, Blair and Brown aren't as unpopular with the people who matter as the press try to tell us they are.

I was with Jack McConnell in Paisley and the response was great, people were glad to see him and they were quite willing to argue but they were friendly and well disposed to Labour, all three also put on an excellent press conference on Wed. which was shamefully played down by the media and here lies a serious malady. It's ten years since the wretched Tories and even longer since the war criminal Thatcher was in power, some journalists who don't remember those dark days are bored and want excitement by trying to elect the SNP.

They do this with a completely cavalier attitude to the consequences for the people who would have to pay the price, they make me nostalgic for the times when journalism was a respected profession, not now, not with this lot, they are a disgrace. I wonder what they tell their families they do for a living, child slave traders perhaps to avoid the shame of admitting to being a Scottish journalist.

Scottish Journalists ( not all of them ) remind me of an old American cartoon where the newsroom boss wearing his visor and shirt sleeve garters is jumping with joy because he's just heard that a plane full of people has just crashed into a packed orphanage !

IRAN - Blair played a blinder in dealing with the hostages didn't he, oh yes he did. Hundreds on both sides would be dead by now if Thatcher had been in charge and we would be further entrenched in another conflict which will cost us dear and will not be won.

I sat watching some of the scenes in the pub ( you're shocked eh ? ) with some mates who are irreverent to say the least all of them about my age and Monty Python fans, one took up the sketch about the Spanish inquisition yelling ' my god, how cruel, they are making them smoke cigarettes - making them eat food - now they are forcing them to wear suits and shirts - making them smile and shake hands, the beasts etc. etc. black humour ? laughing at trouble ? of course it was but today, the day after their return there are newspapers saying that the sailors captured were too compliant and one or two crusty old armchair commandos are calling for them to be court marshalled, and that, is not funny !

Terry you can not call Thatcher a war criminal when your beloved leader is...a war criminal.

A spit and polish for your brass neck?

Terry, please, if it was the right-wing press up to dirty tricks, do you think they would not be supporting the party of Bliar and Balls rather than Wishart and Swinney?

Your criticism of journalists is amazing coming from a politician of your spotless reputation. I know that you write what you believe regardless of any connection to reality but most journalists are actually expected to write about the news: what actually happened.

Iran - Blair "played a blinder", did he? He did very little indeed and he let Ahmadinejad win the propaganda battle. If that's a blinder in your books, it's no surprise St Mirren are doing quite so well.

The whole point about the treatment of the detained sailors and marines was that they are not supposed to be paraded in front of the press - it is specifically forbidden by the Geneva Conventions. Even assuming that you (incorrectly) assert that they would not be covered, you might remember that we do not parade criminal suspects in front of the media. You see, in the UK, we still (despite Nu-Lab mendacity) have some of the aspects of a civilised society.

You may be interested to read that they were not as well treated as you, cretinous weasel that you are, seem to have believed from reports on Iranian National television. Have you ever actually thought critically about anything in your life or do you just get your opinions straight from the Ladybird Book of Marxist Tom-Foolery?

And both of your comments about Margaret Thatcher are as ill-informed and typically insulting as the rest of the mindless drivel you regularly spout.

It's a court martial, Councillor.

How curious that you think (if that is the right verb) Blair 'played a blinder'. I think you'll find the Americans you so despise traded some prisoners to save his sorry ass (and that of his gormless chum from the Caravan Club).

How many hundreds will die now that British passport holders everywhere have been made a target by the weak response of our "government?"

I come to this magnificent house of worship tonight because my conscience leaves me no other choice. I join with you in this meeting because I am in deepest agreement with the aims and work of the organization which has brought us together: Clergy and Laymen Concerned about Vietnam. The recent statement of your executive committee are the sentiments of my own heart and I found myself in full accord when I read its opening lines: "A time comes when silence is betrayal." That time has come for us in relation to Vietnam.

The truth of these words is beyond doubt but the mission to which they call us is a most difficult one. Even when pressed by the demands of inner truth, men do not easily assume the task of opposing their government's policy, especially in time of war. Nor does the human spirit move without great difficulty against all the apathy of conformist thought within one's own bosom and in the surrounding world. Moreover when the issues at hand seem as perplexed as they often do in the case of this dreadful conflict we are always on the verge of being mesmerized by uncertainty; but we must move on.

Martin Luther King 4/4/67 on Vietnam.

If you were even remotely decent, sincere or honourable. You might copy and paste the above link into your browser and listen to Dr Kings speech.

While you do so you might want to think about the blood that the murderers you revere Blair and Brown have on their hands. You might also consider the line;

"A time comes when silence is betrayal."

and how standing for election in full solidarity with Blair makes you complicit.

However that assumes you are anything more than a self serving jobsworth.

I doubt this comment will see the light of day on this blog. So keen are you to run from dissent.

If you really cared about the Labour Party and it's proud history, the people of Ferguslie Park and the workers of the world. You would resign and allow someone with the talent, soul and backbone required to replace you.

You are out of your depth and I think you know it.

Well what there was, was evidence, I mean this is what our intelligence services are telling us and it's difficult because, you know, either they're simply making the whole thing up or this is what they are telling me, as the Prime Minister, and I've no doubt what the American Intelligence are telling President Bush as well.

And that is that there are weapons of mass destruction in Iraq, we know they were there before, but the Iraqis are now trying to conceal those.

But although they're allowing the inspectors access to sites they're not actually fully co-operating with inspectors, for example, they're not allowing the experts that worked on these programmes to be interviewed properly by the inspectors, and what Colin Powell was talking about at the UN yesterday was the systematic attempt to try and conceal this, to disperse it into the country so that it couldn't be found by the inspectors.

So, we're faced with a situation where, I mean, here am I as Prime Minister, this is the evidence that's coming to me day in, day out, and I think it would just be wrong of us and irresponsible of me not to act on that.

Now, if Iraq wanted to co-operate with the weapons inspectors they could do it perfectly easily.

They could say here are all the experts that have worked on our programme, come and interview them free from Iraqi minders, not in designated places, this is what has happened to the stuff that was left over from the inspectors before.

If they did all that they would be co-operating, and then I agree with you, it would be a different situation.

Tony Blair 6/2/03

That's who you're standing in solidarity with. Do you not feel ashamed. Did Blair play a blinder there? Why don't you give us a bit of that 'black humour'? Why not give us a few jokes?

Liar. Phoney. Friend of warmongers.

Blood on your hands.

but today's Herald shows a dramatic leap for Labour into a 4 point lead

sorry for shouting, ODD KEYBOARDS HERE

Reactionary Snob said...

I've defended you a number of times, Terry, but this is arrant nonsense.

''Blair played a blinder in dealing with the hostages didn't he, oh yes he did.''

I'm not sure that Blair had very much to do with it, to be honest.

''Hundreds on both sides would be dead by now if Thatcher had been in charge and we would be further entrenched in another conflict which will cost us dear and will not be won.''

Another conflict? So you are admitting we are in two? And who took us into those? Tony Blair. Whatever you want to think about Thatcher the wars she took us into were just - in the Falklands, our sovereignty was undermined by a hostile action by a dictatorship. Blair has led us into a number of wars, most notably Iraq, where we simply did need to go. More people will have died because of Blair's actions than Thatchers - by rather a large number.

'Of course it was but today, the day after their return there are newspapers saying that the sailors captured were too compliant and one or two crusty old armchair commandos are calling for them to be court marshalled, and that, is not funny!'

Well, why didn't they just say name, rank and number as, erm, they are trained to?

"Blair played a blinder in dealing with the hostages didn't he, oh yes he did. Hundreds on both sides would be dead by now if Thatcher had been in charge and we would be further entrenched in another conflict which will cost us dear and will not be won."

What proof do you have that Thatcher would have killed hundreds?

And you must have been watching another situation because most other commentators are claiming that Blair did the square root of eff all and Iran dictated everything from the snatch to the press conference. Do you think that Blair allowed Iran to have the ranting press conference? And if they had not been holding 15 sailors would the world have bothered to notice?

Also how do you think Blair got on with the UN press release and the EU statement that stopped short of preventing the French selling Iran weapons?

Cllr Terry Kelly said...

S E - Your belief in the integrity of the British Journalist is touching.

"not as well treated" I've thought about this again and, after watching this morning's news I have to admit, that the Iranian swines hid the fact that the captives were, in addition to the deprivations I mentioned forced to play ping pong.

The swines !

Tom Paine - 15 captured - 15 released - no deaths - no injuries.

Obviously a tough guy like you Tom would have gone down with your ship, wouldn't you ?

Cllr Terry Kelly said...

Cllr Terry Kelly said...

I'm wary of someone who a) indulges in this and b) who is happy to use MLK in this way.

Cllr Terry Kelly said...

RfS said...

"15 captured - 15 released - no deaths - no injuries."

Given that Iran is responsible for this situation would it not at this time be an idea to revisit Patton's famous words about making the other guy die for his country?

Are we to assume that you think the worst the Iranians did was to make them play ping pong? What about their discrimination against the only woman in the group? What about the threats to charge them as spies if they did not write those letters? Do you understand what this threat implied?

Do you not feel grubby about what you have written? Do you really believe what you have written? I mean, really? How can you look at yourself in the mirror?

Cllr Terry Kelly said...

RS - 15 captured - 15 released - no deaths - no injuries, seems ok to me. - I don't know what you mean by the number of conflicts.
The reason Thatcher took us into conflict was to save her political skin she's a war criminal.

I don't think counting the bodies is what this is about.

" name rank " etc. That's what happens in films starring John Mills and I don't think that is the order now anyway.

We are now witnessing a feeding frenzy against these sailors because in some people's eyes they should have fought against the impossible odds, I find that very sad and backward, if I had been there I would have thanked my senior officer for not acting like a gung ho clown.

Cllr Terry Kelly said...

RFS _ IMO Thatcher would have had hundreds dead by now and so would Bush IMO

Some commentators say he did nothing and you desperately want to believe them, maybe they are politically biased, it's just a thought !

I didn't see any ranting at any press conference, maybe you wanted to see ranting, just a thought !

Another thought, you should look at the history of arms sales before condemning anyone.

Cllr Terry Kelly said...

almac - how weak !

Anonymous said...

I am referring to Iraq that is my logic. Thatcher can probably defend the Belgrano incident can Blair defend Iraq.

Criticising my logic? Blair would hang if the nuremburg laws were imposed for crimes against peace.

Cllr Terry Kelly said...

RFS - You are now going round in ever decreasing circles, I gave my support to the captives while reporting the black humour that surrounds the case, which I continue to do.

Read your beloved reactionary press if you want to find people who are criticising them, check up on the retired colonels and admirals, check up on the backwoods tories, have a look at what our old friend 'reactionary snob' says on this below.
Tell the bloody truth for a change instead of wrapping yourself in the flag like a craven coward.

I suppose when someone as level headed and sensible as old George speaks about conflict we should all listen.

Anonymous said...

I hope so Councillor. Who knows? As I travel the world on a British passport making money to be squandered by wastes of space like yourself, I may yet have to find out.

After all, every nutjob in the world now believes the British can be relied upon to roll over at the first mild threat. And that the Americans can be expected to release prisoners to get their hapless ally out of trouble.

A "blinder" indeed.

If they knew any shame at all, the people in question (honourably excepting the two or three who refused to cooperate with the Iranians) would donate their earnings from this farce to an American forces charity (though you would no doubt prefer a Cuban one).

Fidothedog said...

Terry grow up you prat. The Belgrano was a target and in a war you hit the enemy.

Had the Belgrano not been sunk, they could and would have caught the UK fleet in a classic pincer movement.

Maybe that would be fine to your twisted view of the world, oh and before you go on about the Argentines who died just remember that had their support vessels stayed around to pick up survivors rather than fleeing to the nearest port far fewer would have died on the Belgrano.

As for this situation had we a strong government Iran would not have dared take our people illegally.

RFS - Don't forget Terry is our pet, ask him to beg.

John Gray said...

Well said Terry (apart from bit about the Falklands War) and good luck with the elections.

Check out Timothy Ash (Guardian March 29) “Only someone whose political and moral compass is totally disorientated by hostility to American and British policy could dare to suggest that this act of shameless, lying, cross-border piracy is justified or excusable”.

"Royal Navy personnel seized by Iran were blindfolded, bound and held in isolation during their 13 days in captivity, the crew have said.
They were lined up while weapons were cocked, making them "fear the worst", one of the 15 freed sailors revealed.

The crew were told that if they did not admit they were in Iranian waters when captured that they faced seven years in prison, a press conference heard.

Opposing their captors was "not an option," they said. "

Terry, I have to thank you. You have answered fully the question, "What is the equivalent in text of sticking one's fingers in one's ears and repeating loudly, "La, La, La"?"

Cllr Terry Kelly said...

Jim - If you read it again you will see that my sympathies are with the crew, read it again and try to tell the truth.

You might also conclude that events have passed you by, read the papers for god's sake, you sound like an absolute fool. It's not me the crew need worry about.

Cllr Terry Kelly said...

What?? A modern military officer assesing the situation and making the correct response?? Surely not Terry!

Fidothedog said...

That was almost a joke and yet again you missed answering the question:

How in a time of war can taking down a legitimate target - ie the Belgrano be classed as a war crime?

Had we not hundreds, maybe thousands on our side would have died, or would you have preferred that to have happened?

Again explain how Thatcher is a war criminal?

Cllr Terry Kelly said...

anon - yes he got it right, that's why the old guard are all over the papers now calling him a coward.

They are the ones who represent the high command, the upper class cretins who are too dumb to push paper around in some merchant bank.

Cllr Terry Kelly said...

fido - I've answered this c - - - before, you are a soft mark for the propaganda peddlers, 'my country right or wrong' the cowards way out.

Anonymous said...

Again still not answered the questions. Have you been taking advise off of Blair & Brown?

Fidothedog said...

So how was saving our people by sinking the Belgrano wrong?

Cllr Terry Kelly said...

fido - sinking the Belgrano was a deliberate act to escalate the conflict by Thatcher to save her political skin.

It caused hundreds of deaths on both sides I say that was wrong, you seem to think it was right, I doubt if we can go any further with this, the propaganda has got you.

Cllr Terry Kelly said...

anon - why don't you just tell me what you would like me to say, would that help you ?

Anonymous said...

Of coure I am open to the "chickenhawk" canard, as I have never served. But if you would stop seeing the Internet as a new-fangled bullhorn and browse around a little you might find what former and serving servicemen think about the subject. Be that as it may, I hardly think that (a) failing even to contact the Iranians (when Channel 4 got to them without problems), and (b) being outclassed by them in propaganda terms can reasonably be seen as "playing a blinder"

But then why I am even hoping for reason from someone still wedded to a 19th Century ideology which much easily be the most comprehensively discredited in history?

Anonymous said...

"anon - why don't you just tell me what you would like me to say, would that help you ?"

"Cheerio" would be a good start.

Cllr Terry Kelly said...

tom paine - 15 captives returned is playing a blinder.

I assume that you are a proud supporter of capitalism, you should get out more.

I assume that you are a proud supporter of capitalism, you should get out more.

Fido wins, oh an Terry still not answered how Thatch was a criminal. Bad Terry avoiding the question, still there is always a zionist you can snarl at.

Cllr Terry Kelly said...

anon - you and fido are wrong IMO Thatcher caused the deaths of people on both sides by deliberately escalating the conflict for her own political ends. You don't get much lower than that.

You seem a bit fixated with the zionist thing, is that guilt by any chance ?
