" Oh the leg bone's connected to the foot bone " and don't I know it, yesterday saw me out delivering leaflets for the first time in ages and my bones now know about it, after about 30 mns in the warm sun I was aware of a small voice saying " mister why are you sitting on my daddy's wall sleeping " I opened my eyes, stinging with sweat to see a wee girl carrying a doll and looking at me with a degree of pity, "I'm just resting love" said I, and, since she lived there I got her to take my leaflet up the long garden path to her mother, bless her.
Yes it's that time again, sore feet, sore muscles, big slavering dugs and endless door knocking. The following actually happened, a woman called out her window from her top flat to me gesturing to me to come up, I dragged myself up three flights determined to win a vote and she said " Oh I don't want a leaflet I just want you to tell this wean that you'll take him away if he disnae stop greeting " it's true honestly.
I'm pleased to report though that, ( like Mark Twain ) reports of the death of the Labour Party are an exaggeration, when we get the chance to talk to the electorate we are addressing their concerns and we are in tune with them, it also gives us the chance to put the record straight about what our opponents are saying, and that's always worthwhile, suffice to say the Herald's version of events is not what's happening on the doorstep.

Of course any reports of the death of the Labour Party are premature. You are prima facie evidence of that. However, it is clear to those not seriously deluded that it has been brain dead since John Smith's unfortunate demise.
In fact, one could probably stake a serious claim that Nu-Lab was born without imagination, principles or courage. Unfortunately there is no equivalent of contraception for faux-socialist mendacity.
Unfortunately we, the electorate, are only being offered the chance to switch off the Scottish Labour "not life as we know it, Jim" support machine on 3rd May. I hope we will seize it with gusto and do the same to the Westminster statist conspiracy at the earliest opportunity.

S-E - If the Labour Party is brain dead, where does that leave you ?
When you have got rid of Labour on May 3rd. and then got rid of " the Westminster statist conspiracy " will you be in charge ? And , who are you anyway ? When are you going to stop hiding ? What are you afraid of ?

Labour party concern 1:
I wouldn't have thought many of your parishioners had the dosh for a place in the house of Lords.
(Cash for honours? Illegal funding of Labour party?)
Labour party concern 2:
Probably more than a few of them would have their sons and daughters engaged in the unlawful wars the leader of the Labour party has dragged them into though.
When will they be brought home, rather than relocated to the other
wars (Afghanistan -> Iraq -> Iran). Will the cash be spent on suitable armour to defend them?
Labour party concern 3:
Any idea how they've correlated your anti-Trident stance with that of the Labour party renewing the great cold war, white elephant to save us from rucksacks packed with explosive and nails?
Labour party concern 4:
Will Tory give Gordon a fighting chance to win the next election or will his ego win the day?
Where does that leave you?
Somewhat pissed off that I am being governed by such a bunch of cretins but I doubt that this is news to anybody who has been witnessing our cheery banter.
Will you be in charge?
Bloody well hope not. Couldn't afford the pay cut for a sodding start. And I would have to punch Paxman for being such a git.
Who are you anyway?
A more-or-less disenfranchised member of the British electorate who has chosen to demonstrate against the corruption and incompetence of British politics on the battleground of blogspot (and typepad.)
When are you going to stop hiding?
When Gordon finishes counting to a hundred (% of gross pay seized in tax.)
What are you afraid of?
Islamist terrorism, rabid pet dogs and being made to watch day-time television. Probably a few other things too but those are the ones that leap to mind.

Terry
Any chance of a post on that budget. The one that increased the tax burden on a low paid worker like myself?
anon - all of this has been dealt with, you are in danger of being rejected.
Save yourself by trying to say something original/ interesting !
S-E - I assume that you are not expecting me to reply to this drivel.
Zin Zin - There is no shortage of debate on this, Gordon Brown was in most nationals yesterday refuting your accusation.
I know this will come as a shock to you but Brown does it better than me.
S-E - I assume that you are not expecting me to reply to this drivel.
But your ego won't allow you not to say anything anyway. You crack me up big man!
S-E Would you not criticise me if I said nothing ?
S-E Would you not criticise me if I said nothing ?
Campaign for plain English martyr that you are, not!
Oh well, I hadn't been going to dignify your arbitrary insult to my answers to the questions you asked me, with a response.
But, as ever, your arrogance and arrant stupidity has got in the way of my good intentions.
I was not your anonymous poster of 12:57 but, in answer to the question you mistakenly posed to me then no, I would not have criticised you if you had not posted in response to my answers. I would, and have in the past, criticise you if you failed to respond or respond adequately to a reasonable question. For example, your response by mere assertion to ZinZin's question regarding the recent budget.
The facts that other people are debating the good, bad and mind-bogglingly stupid from the budget and that Gordo has stated he thinks it is all a brilliant idea is irrelevant to ZinZin's request for your opinion on the matter. Unless, of course, your thoughts on the matter are as pathetic as:
"Labour = Good
Gordon Brown = Labour
Budget = Gordon's
=> Budget = Good"
in which case I think the people of Renfrewshire deserve to know just how little intellectual effort you are willing to put in to running their lives.
Please do honour us with a post about how you see the budget improving the lot of the low paid of your Ward. You may find some facts here, although people far more erudite and economically literate than you have had trouble spinning one of the most amazing tax rises from a Labour, supposedly socialist, government. As you, for once correctly, point out in your profile, one of the principles of post-Marxist socialism is re-distributive taxation of the rich, not soaking the bloody poor.
I am also minded to point out (and feel free to take this as direct criticism) that I had asked you for some comment on your work history and numerous commentators have asked you for your opinions on privatisation & profiteering from shares in previously nationalised industries and on council housing, to pick two of many. We have had nothing but insults and lies from you.
Oh, and by the way, I have never, even in jest, used the phrase:
"You crack me up big man!"
Have a nice weekend.

anon - "plain English " exactly ! "the kind of English, up with which I will not put "
I would also point out, as you are in one of your deleting comments phases again, that I am not the anonymous poster from 1:13.

Are you kidding? Are you just incapable of defending the indefensible?
Are you really so craven as to avoid addressing the abomination that is now the poor subsidising the rich promulgated by a Labour chancellor?
I didn't think i could think of lower of you, but if you don't at least make an attempt to distance yourself from this one you will have shown yourself to be beyond contempt, particularly given your claims of being a socialist.
Get some balls Terry and disapprove at least.
anon - all of this has been dealt with, you are in danger of being rejected.
Rejected? What's your policy on that?
Those are my genuine concerns about the Labour party and noone has ever addressed them to my satisfaction... well apart from Alex Salmond, but you wouldn't appreciate the point I suppose, without having to descend to describing me as a 'gnat' in your ever so witty way.
Save yourself by trying to say something original/ interesting !
The regularity with which you use that line is almost amusing. Careful you don't end up in some Allanis Morisette song.
Shotgun - your enthusiasm for right wing propaganda is obvious - have you heard of the working tax credit ? do some homework.
anon - you've been warned, find something original, I'm not prepared to go over and over the same ground ad nauseum.

Is this some sort of sophisticated humour?
You're much funnier than your critics give you credit for.

What are you on about? Are you too dim to even do the basic maths to work out that the poor are subsidising the rich? Are you too craven even to ascknowledge that?
As to working tax credits...that was the same under the Tories, and introduced by them, only difference being it was administered by the DHSS then.
Do your homework and stop being a prat.
Also stop being a sop to true blue Tory Browns budget.
Seriously, and I do mean this, you are no better than any Tory and you are supporting taxes to from the poor to pay the rich. That isn't propoganda, that is fact. Your constirtuemnts would probably appreciate you making even a brief attempt to distance yourself from that fact.
But you won't because you are a New Labour coward looking for your own skin and the people you represent [sic] are no better than morons you laugh at to get back into the council offices.
Shameful hypocite.
I'm not prepared to go over and over the same ground ad nauseum.
Can you go over it just once?
Is there actually anything that this Labour party does, which you actually agree with?
Starting with, something simple, like say, accepting cash for a mention in the New Years honours list.
Moving onto the illegal wars in the Middle East.
Mentioning briefly the Trident renewal.
Before finally explaining how the budget, which takes money OUT of the pockets of the lowest paid workers, is a good thing for ... wait for it... the lowest paid workers.
If you could cover the Labour partie's complicity in the shameful dawn raids and detention of children that would be good too.
Any mention of your view on Tony Bliar's enormous ego, whilst remembering your vow of Solidarity, would go down a treat.
How about your views on the great ID card scam?
Anything? Is there anything you agreee with the current Labour leadership on?
Shotgun - See post on 'Ferguslie Schools' April 3rd. 10.50 am
anon - I could write page after page about Labour's achievements but I regard you as a lost cause, and a waste of time.

Which might be why you'll find yourself a member of the party which led Scotland to independence. Congratulations!
