THE BEAUTIFUL GAME - THE ONLY GAME !

Was unexpected sunshine a good omen ? Friday was close to freezing, Saturday was sunny and windless, perfect for fitba, Mampden looked magnificent the crowd were noisy and partisan, and the opposition were able, a wee bit too able as it turned out.

After a great start and a goal, Scotland proceeded to miss some good chances while Georgia quietly played themselves into the game until, quite suddenly they were well on top with some brilliant football, Shota Averthingmy was destined to score wasn't he, it then became nail biting time until the hero arrived in the unlikely shape of the tall gangling Craig Beattie. Careering into the box like bambi on ice, he killed the ball on his chest and volleyed home the winner in the dying seconds, cue joy unconfined and Georgian despair, Scots are now starting to believe that they can qualify.

Well done indeed to everyone involved, honest endeavour won the day and to Craig Beattie I say, paraphrasing W.S. ' some are born great, some achieve greatness and some have greatness thrust upon them'. Where is Italy anyway ?

Were you at the game terry? Did you follow it on the telly or radio? Did you spend the whole 90 thinking they were playing against Croatia?

Another fact checked post from Terry Kelly.

I know you don't like to like let facts get in the way of a good post, but Scotland were playing GEORGIA on my telly. Didn't you do Geogarpghy at skool.

You are not very bright are you ?

Dare you to approve this !

Isn't this a bit hypocritical for you as a Unionist to support a "national" team for Scotland? Surely, you'll be wanting, as your leaders do, a single GB team from now on? And this will no doubt fit in with your new found Orange Lodge colleagues as you march hand in hand with your union flags flying. After all, your colleague Gordon Jackson likes to speak to them in a comradely manner.

Terry

Thanks for your review on this game.

I was at the Scotland v Georgia game on Saturday at Hampden and missed the Croatia game.

If it had not been for your report, I would not have been able to keep up with the action.

You services are invaluable and I do believe you should be the next Prime Minister------ of Iraq.

Hi Terry

For once we seem to agree. Craig Beattie's goal against Croatia, well, just miraculous, wasn't it? -especially as the rest of the team was playing against Georgia

As you seem willing to see me as similar to Will, I trust that Will will willingly forgive me, and will not will me from his will, if I suggest that even Will will willingly will your will, a willing willingness to will that you will, in future, watch, with some Scottish, nationalistic, pride, the same game as the rest of us

And as for Italy, you will find it on the other side of the Adriatic from Croatia. You can spot it here, if you will:

If you get this wrong (and it only took me a single minute on the BBC sport website to check) then what else on your blog are you not fact checking before you post?

Iain - The public deserve to read this nationalist poison.

Cllr Terry Kelly said...

Bob - I do hope you are back on an even keel after that.

Cllr Terry Kelly said...

scunnered - I'm beginning to feel quite humble that you should write to me.

What a clever, clever fellow.

RFS - Even by your standards this is pretty weak.

This might shed some light on your preferences for commercial enterprises getting a grip on council sporting facilties. The only game, eh? Certainly, if you have your way.

Think previous discussions...think rugby fields and clubs...think beyond single cell organism standards...

Oh, I think you know exactly what I'm on about, Terry. However, if you are son stupid as really not to know, I'll spell it out. My comment was a facetious reference to your apparent loathing of rugby, or more specifically, one rugby club. Got it now? Good.

Cllr Terry Kelly said...

Jim - If you are accusing me of being a football fan first then I plead guilty, hardly makes ne unique does it ?

Your conclusions are paranoid rubbish I like lots of other sports including rugby. As for PRFC I didn't know they existed until a couple of months ago, good luck to them.

You must love it a great deal not to have even heard of the club from the town you live in and which provides the young people of your ward with the opportunity to participate in the 2nd most played team sport in this country.

anon - 'rugby' I have never played rugby, not once, I have only ever known one person personally who played rugby in my whole life.

I'm one of 8 brothers, none of whom has ever played rugby, nor have any of their mates.

Is it so strange that I didn't know about PRFC ?

As I said good luck to them !
