A happy New Year to the incredible El Commandante himself
Fidel Castro who made a public appearance at an art exhibition in Havana Cuba on
Wednesday January 10th. 20 14. At the age of 87 years. More frail than
we are used to seeing him but still an impressive and imposing figure as he was
photographed among cheering crowds. He was seen chatting with the exhibition
organisers and local artists. Reports say that he has retained all his
legendary intellectual sharpness and is up to speed with world events and
political situations. He was seen to be alert and able to discuss ideas and
stories in an animated and vigorous way.
He continues to defy convention and remains an inspirational
figure to Socialists and progressive people worldwide, like his close friend
and comrade the late Nelson Mandela he is truly worthy of being called a
legend. The story of how he, with a handful of poorly equipped comrades one of
whom was the equally famous and revered Che Guevara took on the most powerful
military power in history America and eventually triumphed against it is indeed the
stuff of heroic legend and will live forever. Wherever there is oppression,
wherever people fight for freedom and where there is injustice his name will
continue to inspire. Along with Mandela I regard it as a privilege to have
shared the planet with him for 65 years and I hope we continue to share it for
many more years.

By golly, the man could be another WSC, admittedly with nastier habits and without Winston' s democratic mandate, but credit where it's due, he's keeping Cuba in the family...Viva Raul.
Why is it that so many socialists have the urge to found a dynasty... Castro, Kinnock, Blair, Prescott and wasn't
Miss Kelly a Councillor?

The only thing that Castro and Churchill could ever have in common is longevity. Churchill was an inbred upper class drunken racist cretin who would just as easily have sided with Hitler if he could have got away with it.
He would have struggled to hold down the most menial of jobs had he not been part of the Churchill dynasty.
Kelly @ 3.19
Kelly, you make my point for me...Winston was born into a dynasty, begun in the 18th century, by the great John Churchill, your lot of wannabees are trying the same thing in the 21st.
Come on, man up, admit it...none of them will rate more than a historical footnote and compared to Winston S Churchill, that's all they deserve. (Ok, getting re-elected with 110% of the vote, as Fidel did, is pretty damn good, I'll grant you that, but still not good enough)
Fidel Castro achieved all he did because of his Courage, determination and intelligence. Churchill got where he did because of his name and a corrupt society.
Kelly @ 6.45
Castro achieved what he did out of the barrel of a gun...Churchill at the ballot box..
You surely prefer our system to Fidel's?
Oh joy...Scargill wanted to use Tory Right to Buy legislation on a flat the NUM were paying for, Mandela was a gun-running, card carrying communist advocate of violence and Fidel is a season ticket holder at Ibrox, with a signed photo of Winston on his office wall.
Ok, The Fidel bit is still only a rumour, but you can see where I'm coming from.
Castro fought in a glorious revolution and put his life on the line against the biggest military power in history. Churchill achieved nothing it was all given to him and he never remembered much of WW2 because he was drunk during most of it lots of booze being taken by a congenital idiot is the truth,

Nothing new here about Scargill it still depends on whether you believe Scargill or the Telegraph and people like Eric Pickles and I believe Scargill. Here is a question for you though, why would Arthur Scargill need to use right to buy when he had all that money given to him by the Russians and Colonel Gaddaffi?.
I don't mind if Mandela was a gun runner and a card carrying communist he was fighting to overthrow the white supremacist rule in SA and get rid of one of the most brutal and evil governments in history and he triumphed that is something that you will just have to live with no matter how painful it is for you.
Scargill got money from Russia And Libya? I didn't know that...another educational gap filled.
And Scargill's Right to Buy trick surfaced not because Pickles, or the Telegraph, took him to court, but because the NUM did.
Re Winston...see Afghanistan, Boer War and WW1... He was at the pointy end in all three. In fact, and whisper this, he had a price on his head in, of all places, Sth Africa.
Another thing he had going for him, when the voters told him to 'Bugger off,' he went, whereas it takes dynamite to shift your heroes.

Scargill was a Russian spy and received millions from the Russians and Colonel Gadaffi, he was rich beyond the dreams of avarice, he had foreign villas, Yachts, mansions all achieved by being a crook, he was also mentally unstable and a bully and public enemy number one. This is a sample of the "news" from our press and TV which some people believed at the time of the coal disputes, people like you that is.
Winston was "at the sharp end" Prince Philip was a war hero, so was Prince Harry and Lord Mountbatten and you are a gullible fool.

Good God, Kelly, either you're mad, or matron has changed your medication. Expect a visit from Arthur's Learned Friends.
I don't believe Arthur did, or was, any of the things you accuse him of.
Stupid, misguided, barmy, all of those, but that's all...never a traitor.
