HOW TO SPREAD CIVILISATION AND JUSTICE BRITISH ARMY STYLE.

Today's newspapers carry the disturbing story of a British soldier in Afghanistan who smuggled in booze to his base and got so drunk that he was in no state to go out on patrol the next day. He went out anyway and during his patrol he confronted an Afghanistan man and his 10 year old son, this confrontation resulted in the boy being stabbed in the kidneys by a bayonet wielded by the soldier.

The family were compensated with £800 while the child was unable to walk properly for a year, the soldier? He got discharged after serving an 18 month prison sentence. Is it any wonder these people hate us? This does not sound like justice to me but the real question is how was this allowed to happen and what kind of penalty is this for such a crime?

More or less what a 'Glasgie McYob' would get for stabbing someone in your glorious city.

And no-one loves you, either!

More or less what a sleazy Murdoch journalist would say.

Well thats what happens when you invade other countries and have a war mongering labour party that has been involved in more wars than the Tories.

Go on Google it, Terrys font of all Knowledge.

I always think the Red Army handled these things so much better when they were in Afghanista, or Hungary, or Germany... or anywhere, really... No live witnesses meant no courtmartial, no punishment and no injured laddie getting treatment in an army hospital... jobs a good'un.

You sound like someone with a good grasp of military history. Is it true that the Red Army used to round up people in these places and throw them on the fire for a couple of hours and then eat them! or was it only children they did that to?.

What a strange response to the anonymous poster who mentioned the Red Army.

I don't think that Britain should be in Afghanistan. Shame the Russians and Pakistani ISS made such a mess of the place isn't it?

I don’t think Britain should be in Afghanistan either, that was not what the exchange was about, read it again and comment again if you want but don’t make it up.

“Shame the Russians and Pakistani ISS made such a mess of the place isn't it?”

This is right out of the CIA history book for the under tens.

Sorry, you're right. Everything bad that happens everywhere is the fault of Americans, or Israelis, or Scottish Nationalists, or Tories, or rich people, or less rich people who've betrayed their class for narrow nationalism and false materialism. In other words, people you don't like and don't agree with. And the Russian army were exemplars of humanity and fraternity in Afghanistan, and Pakistan and Iran haven't been stirring the pot there at all... What a naively black and white world you live in, Councillor Kelly.

Anyway, to the point: of course the soldier who stabbed the boy deserved a worse punishment. If he'd been a young working class civilian-instead of a young working class soldier (or do you still see the army as the enemy of the "working class"? Whatever that expression means) and he'd stabbed a rich kid in a city centre street in Glasgow, I'd feel the same. Would you?

“What a naively black and white world you live in”

You have inadvertently described yourself here.

If he had been a working class civilian who stabbed a rich kid I would blame it on urban deprivation and the evils of capitalism, that should satisfy your string of prejudices right?

You take naivety to a new level or is it just stupidity?

I see the Red Army is busy bringing it's version of civilisation to the streets of Moscow, just as it did in Kabul, Warsaw, Budapest and Berlin.

I know their methods have had a singular lack of success, wherever they've been tried, but I suppose the boys enjoy banjoing innocent civilians.

Bet no-one gets court-martialled, Councillor

What a load of pretentious rubbish from all of you. When will Scotland (the land of wreck the hoose juice)come to the realization that much of it's problems come from drink. This clown was drunk, you understand drunk, what did this have to do with Murdoch, the Russian army, Tories/Labor or whatever. What Scotland needs is a paradigm shift away from it's culture of alcohol and that begins with admitting you have a problem. Much of your pension money comes from booze Scotland's biggest export. Fix your own shit then talk about World affairs.

Have you given a thought to the possibility that soldiers and police in Russia are quite like our own soldiers and police in that they are “just following orders” it’s the same excuse that the guards in Auschwitz gave. If you genuinely believe that police and armies around the world are any different from each other you really are a brainwashed fool. The kind of fool who describes Russian civilians on the streets as "innocent" and British civilians on the streets as rioters, it's sad really.

The highest rates of alcoholism and suicide are among Native Americans but they don’t count.

Anyway I take the point you make Scotland can’t point the finger at anyone. We have a big problem with sectarianism, racism and huge levels of violence fuelled by booze and our Armies Navies etc. are no different from other countries, some soldiers are good some are bad we only really hear about the good ones, the word for it is propaganda.

Back to your usual appalling prejudices. Ireland good - Britain baaaaaddd!

If only the British army recruited these nice, cuddly IRA people the world would be such a better place.

I can’t make any sense of this, would you like to try again?

Swap the circumstances to Ferguslie Park, change the soldier to another Feg. The penalties and longterm effects would be the same. Are we, led by great political parties such as labour, following the afghans or are they following our glorious path?

It’s a worrying thought process that compares a drunken uniformed soldier on duty who stabs a child with his British Army issue bayonet to someone on a Scottish housing estate.
