What an incredible day me and my family had on Saturday.
Spent the whole day (and a fortune in the shops) but it was well worth it.
Much better than last year as the sound and the screens all the way up the street were fantastic.
This is what Paisley needs and more of it.
Talked to people in local shops and they said that it was the best business they had ever seen.
I talked to a girl and her Son and Daughter who were beside me and she said "It makes you feel really proud to be from Paisley. People are usually so negative about the town but here we are at something like this. It restores your pride in the town."
Long may it continue and I hope the dull years of Seedhill fireworks are gone forever
The fireworks were fantastic. The best ever. As good as, if not better than the Glasgow fireworks.
What a huge improvement over having them at Seedhill with the mud and mandatory welly boots.
Thank you Councillor and all your fellow councillors for providing this day out. It is something my children will never forget.
Salute to Renfrewshire Council!
By Alison on THE GRANDCHILDREN OF THE KIDS WHO STOPPED THE VIET... on 06/11/11
I’m glad you enjoyed yourself but it sounds as if you have no knowledge of what the SNP/Libdem Renfrewshire Council have been doing while seeking to portray themselves as nice people by spending huge amounts on projects like this.
Perhaps you might have had reservations about such spending if you knew they had withdrawn death cover insurance from their own low paid workers or cut pensioners annual seaside trip or Wardens from the elderly safe accommodation or children’s school transport or children’s music tuition or made it impossible for poor kids to play football because of council price hikes for pitches or closed day care centres for people with learning difficulties as well as removing transport for the same group and taking away their meagre weekly pay of £2.50p.
I think it is incumbent on people who are charged with the responsibility of spending public money to prioritise that spending. For my part I would not share the council’s priorities in this instance and I am positive that the person whose birth the celebrations were all about would agree with me if he were asked. While you were enjoying the fun people less fortunate than you or me were stuck at home unable to leave the house because of cut backs by the SNP/Libdem council. Did you know that Alison, did you think about that or do you; like those who continue to make savage cuts against the poor simply not give a damn about others as long as you are all right. I hope to have a nice peaceful Christmas and I will be thinking of others in need. It’s already too late for you to do that but; you enjoyed the lights and fireworks so that’s OK right?
I seem to remember you recently condoning and supporting Labour MP Jim Sheridan for furnishng his posh London apartment with luxury items at the expense of the taxpayer whilst others less fortunate went without.
I wonder how many pensioners would spend £199 on a Table Lamp for their house or maybe £1000 for a luxury Ivory Leather bed. Oh and not forgetting the £700 plasma TV.
But of course, you thought that this was ok because he is one of your Labour buddies and he is entitled to such luxuries whilst others who pay for them go without.
Do you ever listen to yourself Terry
I understand that the council amalgamated this years christmas lights swithc on with the fireworks display to save money.
This showed a compromise between saving money during harder times and still showing a willingness to promote Paisley, provide a fantastic day out for over 30,000 people and helping local businesses.
Unlike Labour who would be happier to see Paisley shut down completely. They almost achieved this during their miserable, gloomy 27 year reign over the town.
Alison, don't listen to this man as he is a prize idiot, with no morals, principles or integrity.
He is just a politically driven hypocrite as can be seen from his stance on the fireworks display aginst his support for his cronies who have robbed the less well of of Renfrewshire to feather their own nests.

“I wonder how many pensioners would spend £199 on a Table Lamp”
Or £800 for a London food allowance when Parliament was not in session (Salmond the spiv)
Not much point in responding to this bile I have obviously touched a nerve.
I now have two people Alison and Alex. Who would rather spend council money on lights and bangers than provide people with learning difficulties with a meagre wage of £2.50p a week, well done to both of you; you must be so proud of yourselves.
Not to mention another Labour Councillor who could clone himself so that he could claim to be in 2 places doing 2 different jobs at the same time in order to get paid for both. Science Fiction? No it really happened.
Honestly, you couldn't make this stuff up.
God help Paisley if Labour get back in. It will be the final nail in the coffin for the town.
And next door in Labour controlled Glasgow Council, they spend a collosal sum of money on their fireworks display and separate Christmas lights switch on whilst cutting 13 million pounds from disabled peoples services.
But I suppose that's ok Terry because it's a Labour cut, therefore it must be a good cut.
By the way, I hear there were plenty of Labour Councillors, hob-nobbing at the VIP hospitality in the Town Hall during the fireworks display.
They obviously thought it was a good thing

I wouldn’t accept the word of anyone, including you, who would try to justify cutting public funding to vulnerable people and spending it on their own enjoyment is it any wonder so many nationalists have to hide their identities.
I do remember however the SNP in Renfrewshire condemning councillors getting free parking, a free meal on full council days, access to a councillor’s lounge, free laptops and mobile phones, they said they would never use any of them and guess what? not long after their protest they could be seen parking in the free bays, eating free meals and seconds in the councillor’s lounge while using their free laptops and free mobile phones.
By Anonymous on THE GRANDCHILDREN OF THE KIDS WHO STOPPED THE VIET... at 14:15
Well if I were to say such things about anyone I would simply never dream of doing it without naming the person I was accusing and identifying myself but you won’t do that for 3 reasons 1/ you are a liar 2/ you are a coward and 3/ you are a nationalist which is a combination of the first two.
"as well as removing transport for the same group and taking away their meagre weekly pay of £2.50p"
so th ebold Terry thinks it's ok to insult people with a £2.50 pittance because they are disabled. is that the minimum wage Terry? No? so why is it ok for the mentally impaireed. and if it's 'meagre' what was the rate under the last Labour council.
Using the disabled to score a point is all that is expected of you and the creepy dependency culture you condone. As long as it's Labour councillors doing the patronising it's ok is it?
By Anonymous on THE GRANDCHILDREN OF THE KIDS WHO STOPPED THE VIET... at 17:40
What a low life creature you are, the amount of money is a token amount which they look forward to, they describe it as a wage you moron. If I were you I would hide my identity as well, there is no evil which you would not defend if it was done by the SNP is there.
"Using the disabled to score a point is all that is expected of you and the creepy dependency culture you condone."
You really have shown yourself up here.
And to think that I used to support you.
Who's they? Terry. you speak as if 'they' are somehow to be patronised by tokenism.
you really want to get into the 2oth c. they used to hand out pocket money in the asylums to buy sweeties are you still into that?
'they' are human beings and 'they' deserve the same dignity as you and me.
What's next, 6 sharing a bedroom in bunk beds because'they' like the company?
dignity, you wouldn't recognise it because your only interested in a an attack on the SNP not 'they'

Another vile twisted rant from a vile twisted nationalist. You lot sat down and looked at this issue and took a decision to remove this small sum of money from people who are less well off than you, people who are vulnerable. That is your level, live with it, identify yourself and defend your decision.
By Pauline on THE GRANDCHILDREN OF THE KIDS WHO STOPPED THE VIET... on 08/11/11
Are you not using the disabled here?
You are now in the position of defending the SNP cuts and I take comfort from the fact that someone who is prepared to defend the SNP does not support me, I really feel more decent without the support of such people.
keep calling them 'they' Terry 'they' really appreciate people like 'you' patronising 'them' with a meagre amount of money so that 'you' can sleep soundly knowing how 'you' have changed and impacted on 'their' lives.
By Anonymous on THE GRANDCHILDREN OF THE KIDS WHO STOPPED THE VIET... at 15:30
I’m looking back at events to see exactly who it was that removed the free transport to day centres for adults with learning difficulties and also removed the sum of £2.50p. which they received weekly. I remember now it was you! wasn’t it; the SNP did that right? You must be so proud of that decision. Scotland's Bravehearts my Jim Royle.
