ED. MILLIBAND.

The big hall was full as Ed Milliband stood up to make his first speech as the youngest ever leader of the Labour Party: the drama which surrounded his narrow victory had left delegates drained: the fact that the victory was over his older brother David made the tension almost unbearable. By late afternoon the dust had settled and both brothers were bathed in the warmth and love of an emotional conference where delegates were once again taking on a messianic tone: this is of course de rigueur for the election of party leaders yet: there was something fascinating about the spectacle. This guy really did come from nowhere and he looked like the coolest person in the hall.

I had the pleasure of meeting him at the hustings arranged by local MP Jim. Sheridan here in Paisley where I told him he was second vote on my ballott paper and he said “I’ll settle for that: second preference votes are important and there is always time to change your mind” he was relaxed and confident: exactly ‘the kind of guy you would want with you if you went to rob a bank’ as my Da. used to say. On cue we have the siren voices of the right sniping away: my old Glenburn neighbour Andrew Neil did his loyal grovelling best to undermine the moment as usual by sniping in his voice over as Milliband left the hall like Danton leaving the assembly. Do predictable right wing political dinosaur TV journalists like Neil not have a sell by date? Then he was being called a prisoner of the unions and red Ed. Don’t you long for proper debate? we are turning into America listening to these has beens: time for some new blood Rupert! “he owes his election to union votes” who do you think said this? Norman Tebbit? David Cameron? Alex (the spiv) Salmond? Actually it was said by Tory Life Peer Baroness Warsi who despite never having won an election in her life sits in the Lords and helps to rule over us. She is also unusual in that she is a Muslim of Pakistani descent but she could be any old harumphing Tory hereditary oaf, she ran for election handing out blatant homophobic poison but: she has the arrogance which only comes from being a Tory, and that’s what counts.

Ed. Milliband spoke of a living wage of £7 an hour and getting rid of payment systems that see bankers being paid more in a day than the bank cleaner gets in a year. He stated the rather obvious when he said there will be no peace in the Middle East as long as Israeli settlers continue to build on land which they have stolen and the World Court regards as a crime, he said “it is just wrong” why do so many other politicians find that so hard to say? He has shown already that he is a tough customer and he will already know that he is going to have to be real tough and then some. The Rupert Murdochs: Andrew Neils: Adam Boultons and the rest of the reactionary news clan are waiting and these people believe in nothing except who is paying them. It will be like a blood sport and do you know what? I’m sticking my neck out: no doubt some will say it’s wishful thinking but: I think he’s got the right stuff.

Labour MP's and Party members wanted Milliband Major as Leader and John Prescott as Treasurer. The unions wanted Milliband Minor as Leader and Diana Holland (Who??) as Treasurer.

So, you Scottish Idiot, the score is..Unite 2 the Party 0 and Labour unelectable yet again!!

Hi Terry,

Does Derek McKay look like Ed Millband, or does Ed Milliband look like Derek MckAY.

“I like your hatred of the Jew”

Would you like to elaborate on this statement?

The rest doesn’t make a lot of sense either.

Cllr Terry Kelly said...

I'm not sure about their looks but Milliband is the leader of the Labour Party and Mackay is a political nonentity: it's difficult to mention him in the same sentence as Milliband.

And which right wing red top did you copy that from you clown. I could have sworn that 175,000 elegible people voted in this election and Ed. Won. The conference seemed to be very pleased and so are the Labour pollsters. You need to widen your reading.

"He made them support an English Tory Govt. and he will now limp toward his inevitable humiliation as his party’s Holyrood candidate"

"for a first past the post seat which he is very confident of winning according to his bragging in the local press, so confident that he is on the list as well. Aye right Derek!"

Looks like you're going to have to eat your words Terry!

I cherish the comedic value of your posts.

Ed Milliband and Holland were elected against the clear wishes of the PLP and Party Members.

David Milliband has now thrown his rattle out of the pram and Lord Prescott is comparing his defeat, for Treasurer, to an Eastern European election.

The unions chose the winners and it stinks

David Duff said...

"he was being called a prisoner of the unions"

The unions gave him £135k for his election campaign. Allow me to just repeat that eye-watering sum - £135k!

They also broke the spirit and letter of the electoral law by printing 'Vote Ed Miliband' endorsements on the envelopes sent out to their members to vote.

And also they conducted a mailshot in favour of Ed 'Cain' Miliband when they sent out the ballot papers.

They also ran a website on his behalf which linked to the Electoral Society's on-line web-page on which the voting forms were printed.

But of course they did all that in a spirit of comradely unity and will expect absolutely nothing in return!

(By the way, Councillor, do you still write to Father Xmas every year?)

Ed. Milliband and Holland were elected by a majority of voters in a perfectly democratic way. David is sore because he lost and Prescott lost votes and credibility when he became a Lord.

Do you remember Ted Heath when Thatcher beat him, Jim Sillars when he lost to Salmond (the spiv) ? you don’t really know wht you are talking about.

On what basis do you say I will have to eat my words? I stated that he suports the Tory Westminster cuts and he does and we will make sure that the electorate know all about that when the time comes.

The SNP leader in bed with Cameron and the Tories!I couldn’t have written a better script myself.

“They also broke the spirit and letter of the electoral law”

No they did not.

Donations made to candidates are all above board, it‘s annoying if you are a candidate who doesn’t get endorsed and little money but; that’s not the fault of the one who makes the donation.

“he’s in the pocket of the unions”

In the same way that Harold Wilson was a Soviet spy; you sound like an idiot.

Harman voted and spoke in favour of the Iraq war, yet now applauds Milliband Minor when he says it was wrong.

Hazel Blears says Labour did 'wicked and malicious things' when in power.

Leaving aside - for the moment - that you have a Leader the Party did not want, but Unite did, any views on these two ladies?

Anonymous said...

I meant that you would have to eat your words about Drek having no chance of winning.

Try keeping up Terry. Sometimes you are just plain embarrassing.

He is just another Bliar clone in a suit, who agreed with all Bliar and Brown did for years and now has decided he wan't really in favour of them after all.

Over a quarter of Labour Party members in Renfrewshire couldn't be arsed to vote for anyone. Nationally 10% of those who voted couldn't fill in the papers properly and they weren't counted.

God save us all !

He said quite clearly he would beat the Labour candidate in the first past the post election and then sneaked away and got himself on the list. He is untrustworthy an cowardly and he will lose the first past the post election.

"He is just another Bliar clone in a suit"

Oops! Blair opposed him.

" Over a quarter of Labour Party members in Renfrewshire couldn't be arsed to vote for anyone"

Oops and oops again! That's a 75% turnout you eejit.

Ed. 175,000 votes - David 165,000 votes - looks pretty impressive all round to me.

"Harman voted and spoke in favour of the Iraq war, yet now applauds Milliband Minor when he says it was wrong"

And your point is?

Hazel Blears says Labour did 'wicked and malicious things' when in power.

No she did not that was Andrew Neil's spin on what she said.

"a Leader the Party did not want, but Unite did"

Unite are part of the Labour Party and 175,000 voted for Ed. while 165,000 voted for David, that seems pretty impressive to me.

The right wing press and the poisonous TV journalists just love gullible clowns like you.

My point is that Harman blows with the prevailing wind and going to war is too important for that kind of shyster trick

Blears... you clearly missed Neill playing the actual recording of the Hon Lady speaking at the fringe meeting....she really did say those awful things, Terry, honest.

Perhaps an apology...??

“you clearly missed Neill playing”

If I had not heard the recording and played it twice I would not have said what I did; he is misquoting her and he is a charlatan.

When Neil speaks you would do well to remember that you are not listening to an impartial journalist: he is as dedicated to harming the Labour Party as any right wing Tory.
The Harman thing is a none event: interesting though that you see her rather differently than Clegg, Cable and company who are world class pervailing wind fliers.

Really dont know how to break this to you....I'm talking about a recording, of Blears, unedited, unabridged, made at the actual Fringe meeting itself, that Neil played the day after she had denied the 'wicked and malicious' remarks were aimed at Labour. Blears was nailed as a liar.

Interesting that you believe Harman, strongly supporting war, then applauding the guy saying 'It was wrong' is a non-event. Like to explain that view to the bereaved service families?

Cllr Terry Kelly said...

“I'm talking about a recording, of Blears, unedited, unabridged”

For a start you don’t know that but assuming it is a true recording: you appear to be not smart enough to pick up on what Neil did with it or you are quite happy to let him away with it.

Harman’s behaviour is a non event and there are far more than her who have changed their minds, would you rather she maintained her support ?

“the bereaved service families?”

Is it not about time that people like you stopped exploiting the bereaved families it’s disgusting: are there no depths you won't sink to?

Anonymous said...

Kelly, what Neill did was invite Blears to contact the show and clarify her position ... so far, she hasn't taken him up on this offer.

What else did he do with the actual recording that I'm not smart enough to pick up on?

Cllr Terry Kelly said...

He didn’t do anything with the recording that I’m aware of. He put a wee spin on what she said which you are either too dumb to see or too corrupt to admit to.

I think you will find that Neil has given up on this because he has been caught out, you can find another tape of Blears talking to Neil because she did go back and discuss it with him and he was pathetic, the story didn’t grow legs because people obviously a lot more astute or honest than you know he was “at it”

He is a right wing propagandist and he wouldn’t be so well known if it weren’t for gullible fools like you.

Hello Terry
Ed Milliband may prove to be okay as leader although I think David
may have had more appeal to English
voters.
As for Derek Mackay, when will people waken up to the nonentity he really is. Getting your photo in the PDEx or Gazette every week is hardly politics. Keep up the good work. Ian.

The very fact that someone like Derek Mackay is the SNP candidate for Holyrood tells you all you need to know about the party and the others who are members: what must they be like if Derek won the race to be the candidate?

He also got himself on to the list because he is scared he will lose the first past the post vote, which he will.

If he thought he could beat Labour's Stuart Clark he would not have crept away and got himself on the list: dishonest and cowardly that’s Derek and the SNP

Duff,
If donations determine the content and policy direction of a party you had better take a close look at the major donors to the other parties. If your hair does not stand on end I will be very surprised. As far as I am aware, being a trade unionist is not a criminal offense but Lars Windhorst and his ilk are criminals-check the details-there are many others.

Cllr Terry Kelly said...

Trade union members are entitled to opt out of paying the political levy to the Labour Party. That was a Thatcher attempt to stop them when she made them ballot the issue. It backfired spectacularly when the overwhelming majority of union members chose to pay the levy.

The Labour was created as the political wing of the Trade Union Movement there is no secret about that, and long may it continue.

The Tories are a bunch of crooks that’s not news: they always have been. We need a Government with the determination to clean this up and no we haven’t done it yet either but, we were pressing ahead with new legislation before the last election.
