OOR WULLIE THE HORSEMAN

Get ready with a big patriotic cheer as our brave boys and gels go into the final part of the eventing at the Olympics led by the swashbuckling Old Etonian William Fox-Pitt.
You just can’t beat breeding, horses or riders, it makes me feel humble, the weans in my ward of Ferguslie will be dancing in the streets if the young master wins the day, tally ho old chap.

"You just can’t beat breeding, horses or riders" - or even councillors, Councillor. Actually I'm all in favour of a bit of breeding now and then but, alas, I'm past it nowadays, still, the memory lingers on!

The hate, chippiness and bile this post demonstrates is beyond parody.

You're the reason Labour is getting wiped out even in its final celtic redoubt.

Can we have a few words on the - presumably - working class clowns who have let the country down?

Like the boxer who didn't make the weight, the four cyclists who failed to finish, the swimmer who 'felt fine until he got into the water,' and finally, a special Kelly raspberry for the clown of a diver who took a phone call from his Mammy in the middle of the competition. He finished last by the way, but looked thrilled to bits to be talking to his Mum.

Makes me proud to be British

Terry, just because you perceive show jumping as a sport of the "upper classes" does not necessarilly make it so. My dad loves horses, always has and gets a great deal of pleasure from watching equestrian sports such as show jumping. This hails back to his days working with a horse and cart on Liverpools Dock Road.
I also know a lady who lives in Foxbar that used to work with me and owns 2 horses/ponys and jumps them in small events. I think she would be absolutely affronted to hear that it is not a sport for the "working class".
Your attitude is unfathomable as it demonstrates an intense dislike o of sports on the basis of who you think does or does not participate or like them.
There are a lot of sports that do not appeal to me, soccer being one of them. I can, however, appreciate the skill required to play it, but we have already debated this many times.
The highlight of the games for me so far was the image of Michaela Breeze struggling to complete the competition while in extreme pain. That is my idea of a true determination and dedication. I don't care what her background is or what she does for a living now, I am not particularly interested in weightlifting, but that was impressive and brouht a tear to my eye.

What a hypocritical parasite you are.
On another thread I pointed out that an eventer had recently been killed, yet you concentrate on what you define as the 'elitist' element rather than the risks inherent in what is a dangerous sport.

Remember Harvey Smith councillor? Wouldn't much fancy your chances of survival after breaking the news to Harvey that you considered him an elitist, privileged brat

Having read a lot of your comments I fear it’s not just your memory that has gone.

Well said that man, someone put his forelock back in place and get him off his knees, he’s a loyal and faithful servant, a true military groveller.

They all “presumably” made it to the games without being ex Eton in a sport which was manufactured for the rich to take part, anyway well done young Fox Pitt, it’s the taking part that counts.

I still think there is time to introduce equestrian coach driving to allow ‘big Phil’ to become an Olympian, what do you think ?

Show jumping is an upper class pass time and sport, that doesn’t mean that other people can’t enjoy it though, is Polo for everyone ? Formula one ? Grouse shooting ?

I believe that the Olympics has been devalued over time by people buying their way in either with money or influence. I’m more of an Olympian than you or the others who think that Fox Pitt or Princess Anne is a true Olympian.

The whole commercial circus of the Olympics needs a revamp, it is totally devalued, we might as well have shove halfpenny or snakes and ladders, that’s where it’s heading and, that makes me very sad.

Seeking to use the tragedy of someone’s death to strengthen a pathetic argument is beneath contempt, from you it’s no surprise.

Harvey Smith was famous for being an ignorant boor. He was an embarrassment to his country and his so called sport.

Our Harvey, famous for being an ignorant boor?

So much in common, councillor, so much in common.

But I still reckon you wouldn't have said that to his face

Terry,I am sure that Lewis Hamilton doesn't come from the well to do. It has been well publicised that his father worked long and hard to support him in his hobby of kart racing. There are a lot of people to my knowledge that participate in tis sport and quality will shine through. If somebody has the talent, he will get sponsorship.

Sorry, er, what did you say your name was again ... no, don't tell me ... it'll come to me in minute ...

Another British class hero for you Kelly. This time, a boxer who 'is glad he lost in the first round 'cos he missed his family.'

Two points here Councillor, this bonny lad had been given over £100,000 (that is one hundred thousand quid) of our money over the past two years to help him train AND his family were ringside.

I don't know if he comes from your ward of the workshy, but with that attitude, by God he should.
