I'M OFFSKI

This is my last post for a couple weeks as I'm going away on hols. I will be back about Aug. 7 th. 07 I'm off to the beautiful cities of Prague, Warsaw, Wroklaw, Berlin and some others.

Some readers will no doubt note that these were once communist countries and conclude that I should stay in one of them but, the truth is I'm far too attached to where I live now, friends, relatives etc. Fitba and so on.

I'm hoping to squeeze in a visit to the Doctor Who exhibition at the Paisley Museum before going, along with a visit to the Art Gallery where a competition is taking place, the Paisley area has some fine artists and I would recommend a visit.

I wonder if the SNP administration will still be in place when I get back, that's Holyrood and Renfrewshire, have they decided to have ministers with experience of their briefs, like Kenny Mc Askill Justice Minister who has first hand experience of being a drunk and disorderly football Ned and being locked up by the London 'Harry Margolis' on a visit to Wembley to see bonnie Scotland playing Engurland ? A reformed man obviously, a 'poacher turned gamekeeper' How embarrassing is that ?

Bye for now.

Lovely places but they generally aren't big on communists (60 years of misrule etc.)

Best chance is to find some of those indescribably bourgeoisie German anarchists.

Are you saying that Capitalism has,by contrast delivered a better society.

That's not what I picked up when I was there.

How were your holidays Councillor? Did meeting all those people who rejoiced at the fall of communism cure you of socialism? Did you bring us back anything nice?

anonymous - You've hurt me, you really have. Such hatred, I'm feart !

Rumbold - rather predictable that you would get it wrong, if you took the time to talk to the people you refer to you would get a surprise.

I found a mixture of opinions and emotions about the past, particularly in Berlin where it has not turned out to be the 'land of milk and honey' that they were told about.

Berliners will tell you quite clearly that they have chronic problems with things like unemployment, housing and growing violence, a beautiful city never the less and very friendly people.

Most Poles I spoke to were disgusted at the price rises now that they are 'free' in Warsaw I was charged 69 zlotes ( approx. £12) for the Sunday Times and £3 50 p for a pint of beer, four years ago I bought the same beer for 80p so, it's not that simple is it ?

Mr reliable, that's me.

"I was charged 69 zlotes ( approx. £12) for the Sunday Times and £3 50 p for a pint of beer, four years ago I bought the same beer for 80p so, it's not that simple is it?"

In communist times you would not have been able to purchase the Sunday Times.

You bought the same beer that you had four years ago? Pretty impressive I must say. How did it taste?

Where do you think that the money for subisidies in the Soviet era came from? (The people).

How long did it take you to get back, as you did not fly?

So you enjoy the Murdoch Press do you Terry?

What a model socialist you are!!!

Ah yes, of course, you had to live under martial law and there was every chance the Stasi could take you away, but the booze was cheap!

Nostalgia ain't what it used to be.

Rumbold - I was in the communist block years ago and was able to buy the Sunday Times and everything else I wanted.

The beer ? Tasted as stale as your humour.

The money and subsidies ? The poles I talked to are not impressed at what's happened to prices, I told them, 'welcome to capitalism, you ain't seen nothing yet'
Left Hanover on Thursday, arrived Paisley 6pm via Rotterdam and Hull.

egon krenz - Perhaps you should have a good look around you at some of the so called free countries before you talk such rubbish.

Some countries arrest people and hold them and torture them without trial,
in some countries innocent people are shot down by the police and military,
some countries spy on their own people to an incredible degree, some countries restrict foreign travel,
some countries restrict internal travel,
some countries practice genocide against groups of their own people etc etc.

Who could they be I wonder ?

Good to hear that you enjoyed your holidays, and fair play to you about the travelling- it must have been fairly tiresome.

anon - can't get to Cuba without flying which I don't do.

I'm looking at the possibility of going by another route hopefully for next years celebrations of their glorious revolution, with some luck the worlds greatest leader will still be alive as well. Viva Fidel !
