CONGRATULATIONS

Congratulations to Jim Sheridan Labour MP - he has been re-selected as the Labour Candidate for the Paisley and Renfrewshire North seat at the next General Election.

Jim comes from a strong working class trade union background and as such he knows the issues which really matter to working class families, he can be relied upon to continue to fight our corner at Westminster.

Along with many others in Renfrewshire I was proud that it was our MP who presented the bill to parliament which will prevent the activities of the so called 'Gang Masters' who were responsible for the tragedy which saw the deaths of the Chinese workers at Morecambe.

Foreign workers who come here can be exploited by unscrupulous employers and we should all take an interest in this to prevent it happening.
They need the same protection as any other workers here and part of that is union membership, Jim Sheridan has shown that we can and must show international solidarity with our brothers and sisters from other countries - clearly, a man worthy of your support.

I do trust, Councillor, that you are not infringing the delicate boundaries of racism with your inflammatory remarks:

"Foreign workers who come here can be exploited by unscrupulous employers and we should all take an interest in this to prevent it happening"

because, as everyone knows, well, The Guardian does, at least:

"Sources in Britain's Chinese community said that eight of the dead were from the Fujian province in south-eastern China, where people pay up to £20,000 to snakehead gangsters who smuggle them out of the country to western Europe".

Good grief, who pays £20k to go to Morcombe?!

But the cockle pickers were illegal immigrants, so union membership would not have been available.

David Duff - What inflammatory remarks ?

What kind of person thinks that the events in Morecambe are a suitable source of humour ?

Are you the secretary of the Bernard Manning fan club by any chance ?

rumbold - my post would be worthless then.

What a strange, strange answer, we need to think about you eh ?

Excuse me? I was simply pointing out that you were mistaken about union representation in this case. I know nothing about Jim Sheridan, so I chose not to comment on that part, and I suspect that nearly everybody wants to see gangmasters destroyed so I left that as well.

Have a think about me if you want to, mind.

That's rich coming from a man who condones murderous terrorist attacks on Israel and America.

Do you ever get wet dreams about Osama Bin Laden?

rumbold - I found your remark flippant, you don't need to know Jim Sheridan to comment on his bill to outlaw this practice.

I thought it was more serious than this.

C4 - You are a strange man indeed - every time I have anything to do with you I feel the urge to go and wash.

Of course I support Jim Sheridan's and others' efforts to put an end to this scourge (whether legislation will be effective is another matter). I am sorry that it did not come across that way.

Have a nice holiday, but be careful in Warsaw, as they are now persecuting people who supported the Soviet Union. Will you be going to Cuba perchance?

rumbold- glad you support this measure - I was in Poland about 3yrs ago and it was a fantastic holiday.

Judging by reports it is now being run by right wing dinosaurs and is very unpleasant indeed. You darent be left wing and if you are gay you are in trouble.

I would of course love to visit Cuba but I hate flying, maybe some day.

will you forget to vote for Jim like you forgot to vote for Wendy and yourself?!?

duggan - I get the impression that you don't like the fact that I won easily on the first ballot and Wendy, again, increased her majority.
