*** SNP - HAMMER GAYS - YET AGAIN ***

I've written about this before so this won't take long. To all those Gnats who have been taking me to task on my criticisms of the SNP's attitude to the gay community, what are you going to say now ? We were all against exemptions on gay adoption weren't we ? well, the Catholic Church says it will campaign against any party which does not support it's request to be allowed to carry on discriminating against gay people who want to adopt. Salmond and the SNP predictably slither on to scene with a cowardly and opportunistic quick fire policy which will allow Mother Church to continue with it's homophobic bigotry, Catholics of course make up a lot of voters ! can the charlatan Salmond and the SNP really be as low as this ? is there no depth to which they will not sink ? apparently not. MSP's Cunningham, Ewing and the BYU and now this, I can't wait for the gay SNP apologists to write to me again, come on Bravehearts where are your voices ! will you never speak out ? you cowards.

Well done Labour - surely this demonstrates once and for all that you can have equality or you can have religion, you can't have both.

I can't quite believe you have the nerve to post this.

At least the SNP are being open and giving voters a the chance to disagree with them - in contrast to the First Minster, who appears to be making secret deals behind the closed doors of the church.

Hi again, Terry

As you already know, I have no brief to speak for the Gnats, but don't you think that they might just actually be as principled as be standing up for a Christian minority, discrimination against which you seem to be perfectly happy to condone?

Of course, I doubt if the Gnats are that way inclined, as politicians merely sink to their one common level on such opportunities, but wouldn't it be nice to think that there was someone left in the country who realised that maybe all minorities need to have their views taken into account and respected, not just those that they agree with or like?

Yours, as a proponent of liberal democracy, the abolition of censorship, open minded tolerance, the acceptance of those who do things differently, and the willingness to live and let live in a civilised manner

Funnily enough, i could almost see myself as a non authoritative, non totalitarian, socialist. Looking at legislation past and that to come, I don't think that would get me very far in the present Labour Party though, do you?.....

Bash on, but please try not to hit your fingers with your own hammer.....I'd miss my nightly read...

Aren't you a member of the Catholic Church?

Cllr Terry Kelly said...

neil - you may well be right but you will have to expand on it a little for me.

Cllr Terry Kelly said...

max - keep them coming - the church declares that it will tell it's members to oppose any party which does not allow them to discriminate against gays - Salmond and the SNP immediately creep in saying that they will allow the church to carry on with their discrimination against gays. max, I'm happy to let anyone see your views on this and decide what kind of person you are and what the SNP are all about.

Cllr Terry Kelly said...

scunnered - let me try one para. at a time - 1/ I'm lost here I really don't understand this para.
2/ all politicians don't sink to this level but the SNP just have - again - I will take almost anyone's views into account but not necessarily give them my respect.
3/ as chapter one.
4/ If you want to see a better more equal and fair society then you are no different from me and the Labour Party with all it's faults is the only way. You would be surprised at the number of socialists in the party, we haven't all run away - we fight on.

Cllr Terry Kelly said...

clairwil - I have had to deal with this since I started as a councillor 8 yrs ago when we new cllrs. were filling in the forms one of the questions was 'are you a member of any organisations' apart from the party, the union etc. like others, I couldn't think of any. Some put down their religion as I did we knew no better it's as simple as that. any way I suppose if any religion were to claim me it would be the Catholic Church but I doubt if there would be a rush. Hundreds of years ago a guy called Galileo said that the earth circled the sun, the Pope said it didnae he then showed Galileo the state of the art torture methods that they had - Galileo ( wise man ) concurred. You might want to check the Pope's position on this now. and hope for the future.

The Catholic Church is a private organization. Ugly though it may be, they have the right to discriminate on any grounds.

I hesitate to make this comment but I seem to remember that 'once upon a time', as in all fairy stories, Scottish education was held up as an example to us all. I hesitate further because of my own personally guilty knowledge and fear of the many grammatical errors to which I am prone; to say nothing of the many typos which trip up all of us from time to time. However, Sir, your own blatant, continual and egregious blunders of omission and commission in the written word are achieving sub-sub-standards of which I can only dream. I am forced to ask, are you a typical product of the Scottish, socialist education system? You will note, of course, that I forbear to mention the unfortunate fact that most of the content of which you write is nonsense because happily (I think?) in this worker's paradise today there is no inhibition on fools making fools of themselves. And we must seek our laughs where we may, don't you think?

Cllr Terry Kelly said...

david duff - you are right about one thing - there is no inhibition on fools making fools of themselves.

Cllr Terry Kelly said...

josh - I don't think you are right to say that if an organisation is private it has the 'right' to discriminate there are laws about that kind of thing. these laws 'ugly as they may be' in your eyes are still laws - it's called democracy.

tell it's members to oppose any party which does not allow them to discriminate against gays -

Discriminate against gays...or discrminate in favour of children?

Sorry...almost forgot but you're a socialist and your opinion is not open for discussion...yep, leave the kids to be bummed as long as gays have what they want...amd before you get on your high horse, the only example of what gays do when allowed to adopt has been demonstrated by the first gay couple that was allowed to foster...

But of course this won't count will it? And I bet this doesn't get published.

No it isn't, it's called coercion.

Just because something is lawful, or has lately been made lawful, doesn't mean it is wholesome or right, and certaionly should not mean that it should dictate the thought and morals of everyone.

You want to legislate to coerce. If I, or anyone disagrees with something on moral or religious, or indeed any grounds, who are you to tell me I cannot or that I will be breaking the law to do so? And then you call that democracy? The only way democracy can be served in this way is by referenda, and I think we all know what the outcome of a referenda on this issue would be, but you and othes would claim this is because the majority is ignorant.

If that is socialism, then it is criminal.

Hi Terry, Hope you are well, first time I have accessed your site, (judging by the "snaps" - loose some weight, man - heart attack coming!) Just a point of interest, you replied to clairwil that your declaration of membership of the roman catholic church was down to "naivity", when you were first elected as a councillor. Were you still as naive in April 2005 when your "declaration of interests" was updated?
Love to Arthur and Hugh

First and last visit to this site. Michael McMahon MSP, Labour, led the charge for full-on opt-outs for the adoption agencies. The official SNP policy can be seen by anyone - go onto the Scottish Parliament website and read what Fiona Hyslop said. This isn't a party political issue and to make it one is pathetic. To accuse the SNP of homophobia is sad, wrong and typical of the Labour cooncillors who are about to be culled by the score.

Deal in facts and not prejudice and you might get taken seriously by serious people.

anonymous foul mouthed coward - you can depend on it that you will be published - people need to know that you and your kind are out there.

Cllr Terry Kelly said...

anonymous - a rather limp attempt to persuade us that you should be allowed to indulge your prejudices legal or not. Referenda ? what about elections ? remember Brian Souter and be very afraid.

Cllr Terry Kelly said...

Mo- so you know me and my family, why the secrecy ? this catholic thing is baffling me, anyone who knows me also knows that it's rubbish it's just not an issue, but, to answer your question, we were asked to fill in a form if our circumstances had changed in April 05 if you didn't reply it was assumed there was no change, to fill in or not fill in a form 'that is the question' nothing more than that I'm afraid. Let me know if you need to know more and think about letting me know who you are, I promise not to bite.

Cllr Terry Kelly said...

cal mac - try telling Salmond it's not political - no sooner had the church issued it's threat than he released his repugnant statement saying they ( the SNP ) would allow an opt out - buying catholic votes , nothing less. This is just the latest in a string of anti gay issues from SNP members, the party have done nothing about them, that's a fact, and a scandal. If you want to get sanctimonious start in your own midden. If you stop cowering behind anonymity 'you' might get taken seriously!

Foul mouthed for using the word 'bummed'?

Do you even read and absorb what is written by others or yourself?

You call me a foul mouthed coward, but you are the coward for failing, deliberately, to address the issue raised. That was a BBC url; are you calling them biased?

You can rest assured that I am no coward, and have medals to prove it from times when you were supporting a red flag against the best interests of this country...yes, I know some of you past. As soon as my connection from a home office is sorted out I will make my identity plain, and when I do you can even see where and who I am.

You should try addressing issues raised to you if you are to be seen as anything but a cowardly socialist who engages only in pontificating and runs from debate.

So absolutely nothing in answer to the issues raised then?

As I thought; you are incapable of rational debate. A pity as I was looking forward to some political rough and tumble debate.

Cllr Terry Kelly said...

anonymous Josh - I thought I had answered you but I'll have another go despite you not having the courage to identify yourself, that loses you my respect right away.
Being lawful doesn't make it right 'correct '
I've never said that you can't disagree with something on moral / religious grounds - I refer only to what is the law, if I do something illegal I have broken the law ! am I missing something here? do I really have to spell this out to you? I don't hold out much hope of political rough and tumble debate if this is an example.

Any more questions?

Correct me if I am wrong but it is the LABOUR and LIB DEM Executive who came to this arrangement with Catholic adoption agencies.

So why are you attacking the SNP?

Bizarre!!

Cllr Terry Kelly said...

anon - I'm not sure what you mean here, are you referring to the time extension ?

I have regularly attacked the SNP because of their attitude to the gay community, you'll have to read up on it, I'm not going over it again.
